President, China at Conocophillips

Bill Arnold is president, China for ConocoPhillips.

Arnold joined Phillips Petroleum Company in Lafayette, La., in 1986. His early career involved multiple U.S. work locations and various engineering roles for assets located offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, Texas, New Mexico, offshore California and North Slope Alaska.

In 1999, he led a technical evaluation team in the acquisition of the Alaska North Slope assets. In 2000, he transferred to London as asset manager, Central North Sea area. In 2002, he transferred to Aberdeen, Scotland, as manager of the Southern North Sea. In 2006, Arnold transferred to the UAE and was named president of Dubai Petroleum Company. He then moved to Houston and assumed the role of general manager, Upstream HSE in spring 2007. In 2011, he transferred to Alaska and became manager, North Slope Integrated Operations & Capital Projects. Arnold was the general manager for Norway operations from 2015 to 2018.

Arnold earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1985 and served on the University of Tulsa Petroleum Engineering Advisory Board. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and has held various chair positions. He served as finance chairman on the board of the International School of Aberdeen. Arnold has also authored and published The Little Black Book on Safety and multiple SPE papers and has secured a U.S. patent on a specialized well stimulation technique.

Ms. Smriti Aryal took office as the Head of UN Women China on 27 July 2019 based out of Beijing. She is the first Head of the office to China at the representative level, to be appointed by UN Women.

Ms. Aryal is a national of Nepal and brings over 22 years of professional experience in international development and humanitarian assistance, which she has acquired at the United Nations and externally.

Prior to arriving in China, Smriti served as the Head of the Office in Myanmar (2018-2019), after holding key leadership roles including as UN Women’s Regional Advisor and UNAIDS Regional advisor between 2008-2017 based out of Bangkok and with UNICEF from 2000-2006. She has worked with a wide range of stakeholders including regional and national governments, CSOs and the UN over 12 countries and brings strong background in public policy development, strategic planning, and strategic partnership related to a host of international development issues. She has authored and published numerous documents as well as served as peer reviewer in several international conferences and journals.

Ms. Aryal holds a Master’s in Public Health from University College London, UK, and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Gender Studies from Oregon State University, USA.

安思齐女士来自尼泊尔,在国际发展和人道主义援助方面拥有22年的专业经验。

Prior to joining Chayora, Steven worked for the State Grid Corporation of China and the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, where he was responsible for overseas operations. Steven graduated from the University of Strathclyde and the University of Stirling in the UK with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Engineering. New Zealand Ambassador to China

Clare Fearnley took up the role of New Zealand Ambassador to China in May 2018, cross-accredited to Mongolia.

Prior to this, Clare was Ambassador in Seoul (2015-2017), cross-accredited to Pyongyang. Her previous off-shore roles include Consul-General in Shanghai (1998-2002) and head of the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office in Taipei (2004-2007), as well as working at the New Zealand Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva (1993-1996), cross-accredited to the United Nations Office in Nairobi. Early in her career she was seconded to the Canadian Foreign Ministry (1992).

Clare’s most recent role at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Wellington was as Director-General for North Asia (2014) and before that was Director-General for Asia-Pacific Regional work (2011-14). She has served as APEC and ASEAN Senior Official, as well as acting as Principal Legal Adviser (2010) and as Head of the Trade Law Unit (2007-2010), where she led international trade litigation, including cases in the WTO. Earlier in her career, Clare’s MFAT roles included Deputy Director-General of Trade Negotiations. Before joining the Ministry, Clare worked in the private sector in Asia.

Clare has arts and law degrees from Canterbury University (NZ). She is a Mandarin speaker and studied at Beijing University and at the Beijing Languages Institute in the 1980s.

Robert W. Forden has led the United States Mission to China since October 5, 2020, following the departure of former Ambassador Branstad. Chargé Forden has served in the United States Foreign Service for more than 30 years and holds the personal rank of Minister Counselor in the Senior Foreign Service.

Chargé Forden is one of the U.S. State Department’s most experienced China specialists. He served twice previously in U.S. Embassy Beijing (1995-1998 and 2007-2011) and was Deputy Director and Political Chief of the Department of State’s Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs (2005-2007). He was also Deputy Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) (2015-2018) in Taipei, and headed AIT’s Kaohsiung Branch Office (2002-2005). Chargé Forden’s other assignments include serving as Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassies in Tel Aviv and Hanoi. His background in China started early; he taught English at universities in Shenyang and Beijing from 1981 to 1983.

Chargé Forden has a B.A. in Politics from the University of California and did his postgraduate work in International Trade and Asian Diplomatic History at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy. His foreign languages are Mandarin Chinese and Vietnamese.

He is from Southern California and is married to Hui-chuan (Jasmine) Chi, an American originally from Taiwan. They have two grown daughters and a son.

Belén Garijo is the Chair of the Executive Board and CEO of Merck. She joined Merck in 2011 as Chief Operating Officer of the Biopharma business, becoming President and CEO of Healthcare in 2015. Before taking her current office in May 2021, Belén Garijo served as Vice-Chair of the Executive Board and Deputy CEO.

Under her leadership of the Healthcare business, Merck became a key global player in oncology, immunology, and immuno-oncology. This success followed her repositioning of the portfolio, the reorganization of R&D and the realignment of the commercial model. In addition, Belén Garijo forged two major global alliances that further contributed to the value of the Healthcare portfolio. She also focused on the globalization of the business to expand Merck`s position within the U.S., Japan, and other high-growth markets.

Before joining Merck, Belén Garijo served as the Senior Vice President of Global Operations Europe at Sanofi-Aventis and Global Integration Leader of Genzyme after its acquisition by Sanofi. She previously held several local and global executive positions, both in R&D and commercial, at various companies at the forefront of the healthcare sector.

Belén Garijo is a medical doctor specializing in clinical pharmacology. She started her career as a practicing physician at La Paz hospital in Madrid, Spain, before moving into the pharmaceutical industry.

As a serial entrepreneur, Kathy co-founded WafaGames in 2017. Acknowledged by MIT Technology Review for WafaGames’ technological advancement on game Artificial Intelligence, Kathy was featured as its global 35 Innovators under 35 in 2017.

Since its launch in 2019, WafaGames’ flagship game Swords of Glory has grown into a community of more than 700,000 gamers, streamers and contributors globally and keeps growing.

Prior to cofounding WafaGames, Kathy founded ai.Law, a legal robotic start-up that reduces the barriers and makes legal services affordable. Until its acquisition of 11 Million USD in 2017, ai.Law has served 3 million people, 67% of them being women.

Kathy was the youngest national chess champion at the age of 10 in 1996 and again at 12 in 1998. She is also one of the youngest chess masters in China.

Kathy was final-listed by Space for Humanity as 1 of the civilian astronauts to launch to the Space.

Among her experiences, Kathy is Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Council (CPPCC) in Chengdu, her hometown; Member of the Foundation Board of Global Shapers Community World Economic Forum (2013-2016); Co-chair of APEC Women Leadership Forum (2013-2014); and, Image Ambassador of Chengdu’s Young Entrepreneurs.

In 2012, Kathy founded an independent non-for-profit organization, World’s Young Voices to sponsor young grassroot students who are academically and socially outstanding to globalize the young minds in advancing innovation and social entrepreneurship.

Kathy actively advocates on the importance of failures in entrepreneurship. She still passionately and intensively plays Chess online with Chess masters around the world.

Victoria Kwakwa was appointed World Bank Regional Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific (EAP) in April 2016. Prior to this appointment, she was World Bank Country Director for Vietnam.

In her role as Regional Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, Ms. Kwakwa leads the World Bank’s engagement in the 23-member countries in the region focusing on private sector led growth, human capital development and inclusion, and sustainable and resilient development.

Under Ms. Kwakwa’s leadership, the World Bank’s EAP region has given strategic priority to how countries in EAP move to higher productivity growth models, including through effective use of technology; addressing childhood stunting and improving learning outcomes; transitioning to cleaner energy paths and tackling the growing problem of marine debris. She has also focused on deepening partnership with regional bodies such as ASEAN and with other development actors in the region.

Ms. Kwakwa has led work on a range of economic policy issues such as economic competitiveness, fiscal management notably in resource rich economies and fiscal decentralization.

Since joining the World Bank as a Young Professional, Ms. Kwakwa has had several successful assignments as economist, country manager and country director in East Asia and in Africa. She has extensive field experience in Nigeria, Rwanda and Vietnam.

Vamsi also serves as an Outside Director on the Board of Coca-Cola Bottlers Japan.

Most recently, Vamsi served as the President of Coca-Cola South Pacific Business Unit (Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands).

Previously, Vamsi served as the Region Director for company-owned bottling businesses in India, South Asia, and South East Asia. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of the company’s bottling operations in Vietnam and Cambodia and led the efforts to return them back to sustainable growth. Prior to that Vamsi was General Manager for Coca-Cola in Malaysia and led the setup of the greenfield bottling business there.

Fernando is currently a Vice-Chair of the Board of the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM), and serves on the Executive Board of the Multinational Companies’ Committee of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, and the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (Beijing). In addition, Ella also supervises IT, Facilities and Security for NBA China.

Gloria Xu is Vice President, Greater China, the Dow Chemical Company, and serves as Dow's key representative with critical policy stakeholders, including governmental organizations, key trade associations and NGOs in the Greater China region. Prior to joining Dow, she led the China government affairs functions of DuPont and Standard Chartered Bank respectively for over 10 years with rich experiences in policy development and regulatory issues.

Gloria was China Public Relations Manager of Alibaba.com Group and helped build up brand awareness of the company at its start-up stage at the beginning of this century.

From 1993 to 2000, Gloria was a political correspondent with China Daily, covering legislative and foreign affairs, military, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan news.

She has been consecutively elected as a board member and vice chairman of China American Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Industrial Digitalization and Transformation Committee of CIIE exhibitors alliance and Deputy Secretary General of Multinational Companies Committee, China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation.

Gloria graduated from Nanjing University with a BA in English Language and Literature.

徐旸女士是陶氏化学大中华区副总裁,代表公司负责与政府机构、行业协会和其他外部利益相关方的沟通与合作。2014年加入陶氏之前,徐女士曾在杜邦公司及渣打银行担任政府事务部负责人超过10年。

徐女士还曾担任过阿里巴巴集团有限公司中国区公关部经理,规划参与了该企业早期的品牌建设。

1993年-2000年,徐旸女士任职于《中国日报》社,负责外交、立法、中国人民解放军和港澳台新闻的采访工作,后任报社“中央组”协调人。

徐旸女士曾连续多年担任中国美国商会董事、副主席。上海进博会展商联盟工业数字与转型委员会主席、中国石油和化工联合会外企委员会副秘书长。

她毕业于南京大学,获英语语言文学学士学位。

Ms. Li Ye is leading the Merck China Corporate Affairs hub in support to all the three business sectors (healthcare, life science & performance materials) of Merck in China since January 2018. She is the member of the leadership team of Merck global corporate affairs and sits in the Country Council of Merck in China.

Ms. Li Ye is a veteran in corporate affairs and government relations for international companies with her 20+ years’ working experience. She joined Merck healthcare in Aug. 2013 responsible for the government relations and market access. Prior to that, she had been taking the management roles on government affairs, market access and strategic development in top international companies including Hoechst, GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer and AstraZeneca, etc.

Li Ye graduated from University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, then she went to the Great Britain for further study. She obtained a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Westminster, London. She also holds a Diploma of Economic Evaluation and Assessment in Health from the University of York, UK. In 2016, Li Ye completed her Executive MBA study in Peking University National Development School in Beijing. She is now studying for a doctorate on financial management run by the National Development School of Peking University and Fordham University in the United States.

李晔女士自2018年1月起负责领导默克公司在华业务在政府关系和企业事务方面的工作,是默克全球企业事务管理团队成员和默克中国管理委员会成员。

李晔女士在跨国公司企业与政府事务领域有着20多年的管理经验。她2013年8月加入默克生物制药,负责领导政府事务和市场准入工作。在此之前,李晔女士先后服务于德国赫斯特公司、葛兰素史克、拜耳、阿斯利康等全球领先企业。

李晔毕业于对外经济贸易大学,之后获得英国西敏寺大学工商管理硕士学位。她还拥有英国约克大学的卫生经济评估文凭。2016年,李晔在北京大学国家发展研究院取得EMBA学位,目前正攻读北京大学国家发展研究院BiMBA商学院与美国福坦莫大学(Fordham University)商学院联办的金融管理博士学位。

Brent A. Young is Vice President of Intel Corporation and GM of the China Corporate Strategy Office where he is responsible for Intel’s overall corporate strategy in China.

Young joined Intel in2006 as an open source software strategist where he helped shape Intel’s strategy and execution in open source. He was then selected for Intel’s coveted technical assistant and chief of staff program supporting Tom Kilroy, the EVPof worldwide sales and marketing, and his staff where Young led overall staff operations, prepared executive communications and keynotes, and led global coordination for customer and government engagements. Young then moved to China and was the managing director of China Tech Ecosystem (CTE) Sales and China Product Marketing Group where he led Intel’s overall product marketing in China as well as sales, customer, and go-to-market strategies in the CTE. Under his leadership, the CTE sales team received Intel’s highest honor, the Intel Achievement Award.

Prior to joining Intel, he spent 5 years developing core product features in various software engineering and technology evangelist positions at two startups, Curl Corporation and ShoppingList.com.

He is a member of Montage Technology Group Limited’s board of directors,on the American Chamber of Commerce in China’s board of governors where he is Vice Chair in 2021, a board member for the Cornell Alumni Club of Beijing, and an executive-in-residence at Tsinghua University’s X-labs. Young earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Cornell University and an MBA focusing on strategy, marketing, and finance from Kellogg.

杨彬(Brent Young)现任英特尔公司副总裁兼中国战略办公室总经理,负责推进英特尔公司在中国的总体战略。

杨彬于2006年加入英特尔担任开源软件战略师,负责制定开源领域的战略和执行。随后他被选为英特尔全球销售和市场部执行副总裁Tom Kilroy及其团队的技术助理和办公室主管负责整个团队的运营、高管间沟通协调和准备主题演讲,协调全球范围内的客户和政府事务工作。之后被外派至中国区担任英特尔中国区创新生态圈(CTE)销售部及产品市场部总监,领导英特尔在中国的整体产品营销以及CTE的销售、客户和上市策略,在他的领导下CTE销售团队获得了英特尔公司的最高荣誉—英特尔成就奖。

在加入英特尔之前杨彬曾在Curl Corporation和ShoppingList.com两家初创公司担任过5年的软件工程师和技术传播者开发核心产品功能。

杨彬是澜起科技有限公司董事会成员、美国商会的中国理事会成员并于2021年担任美国商会副会长、北京康奈尔大学校友俱乐部的董事会成员、清华大学x-空间(Tsinghua x-lab)创业孵化器的驻校执行官。

杨彬拥有康奈尔大学的计算机科学专业学士学位和硕士学位,以及美国凯洛格商学院的战略、市场营销和金融专业MBA学位。

Michael Zhu is Global Vice President and Managing Director of China for Hewlett Packard Enterprise. In this role, Michael leads the HPE country management teams, representing HPE China entities with overall responsibility, managing HPE overall China strategy including strategic partnership with H3C.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Zhu served as Vice President of Product Marketing at Western Digital China leading the strategy and execution of its regional business functions of product marketing and Go-to-market operations. At Western Digital, he also served as Global Vice President of Joint Venture Operations overseeing its China joint venture strategy and operations.

Before Western Digital, Mr. Zhu held various global leadership roles over a decade at HPE, HP, and 3Com leading global product management teams, managing corporate strategic alliances and industry ecosystems. His global corporate experiences also include driving M&A and start-up investment initiatives for corporate development and managing post joint venture Go-to-market integrations.

Michael brings a unique blend of cross border cultural understanding and global leadership experiences in US, China and Japan, with a strong track record of formulating win-win partnerships and driving business growth. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Beihang University in China and earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University in the US.

HP和3Com担任过多种全球管理职务,包括领导全球产品管理
团队,管理公司战略合作伙伴及构建全球生态系统。他在跨国
公司的经验还包括为企业发展负责并购和投资初创公司项目,
以及建立合资企业及负责完成后的市场整合工作。

The Women's Economy Summit (WES) was initiated in 2017 through the joint efforts of the American Chamber of Commerce in China and women empowerment consultancy SCHSAsia. The Summit attracted 150 attendees in its first year, grew to 300 in 2019, and reached over 500 people globally in 2020. This annual event is the largest gathering of women leaders in the AmCham China community with a mission to raise awareness of the key role women play in global economic development. It celebrates how far we have come but also acknowledges how far we still have to go with regards to ensuring women's full economic empowerment.
