Colm Rafferty is the Vice President – Asia Pacific for Vermeer Corporation and is Chairman of Vermeer China Limited. Vermeer is an equipment manufacturer from the Midwest of the United States, with products used for agricultural mechanization, environmental protection, infrastructure development, and non-blast surface mining. The Asia Pacific business includes integrated supply chain operations and dealer networks and company-owned distribution in China, Singapore, Australia, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia.

Vermeer advocates for the interests of U.S. businesses around the world. In the U.S., Vermeer is an active participant in President Obama’s Export Council (PEC). Vermeer’s Chair of the Board is the recent former Chairwoman of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the largest industrial trade association and lobbying group in the U.S. In China, this past year, Colm served as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of AmCham China.

Colm received an MBA from the Yale School of Management, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies from Brown University. He currently serves on the Yale University Asia Development Council, the Yale School of Management’s Greater China Advisory Board, and recently served on the Executive Committee of the Beijing Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO).

Sean Stein is a senior advisor in Covington’s Public Policy Practice Group. Prior to joining Covington, Sean served as the U.S. Consul General in Shanghai. Dr. Qinghua Zhang is now Professor at the Department of Applied Economics in Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. She graduated from Wuhan University, where she received her bachelor's degree in economics. She received her Ph.D in economics from Brown University. She was a visiting scholar at the Department of Economics at the University of Texas at Austin from 2002-2004 and then at London School of Economics and Political Science from 2015-2016. She also served as a consultant for the World Bank in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2017.

Dr. Zhang has broad research interests including Urban Economics, Public Finance, Labor Search and Matching, and Applied Econometrics. She is published in many distinguished economic journals including Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Monetary Economics, Rand Journal of Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Econometrics, and Journal of Development Economics. She has presented at many international academic conferences. She has led many research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the World Bank, and international cooperative research institutions such as IGC (International Growth Center).

Dr. Zhang received the Best Paper Award from the Global Chinese Real Estate Congress in 2016 for her original work on China’s housing market. She was also awarded the First Prize in the National University Research Competition (in Social Science) awarded by the Ministry of Education of China in 2020 for her pioneering work on transportation infrastructure and urban decentralization in China. She is currently a member on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Urban Economics.

Dr. Zhang joined Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) in 2004. Prior to joining MSRA, Dr. Zhang worked at Microsoft headquarters starting in 2001, playing a key role in developing the Microsoft PhotoStory product. In 2009 Dr. Zhang founded the Software Analytics group at MSRA, and led the team to conduct cutting-edge research and technology innovation in an interdisciplinary area that spans across big data, machine learning, systems, and software engineering. In recent years, Dr. Zhang’s groups have expanded their research into business intelligence. Their research and technologies have helped Microsoft Power BI to establish a technical leadership in Smart Data Discovery in the BI and data analytics market.

In recent years, Dr. Zhang has been continuously advocating Diversity and Inclusion internally and externally while conducting research. She is passionate about helping young females pursue their dreams in High Tech areas. This year, Dr. Zhang serves as Chair of Microsoft GCR D&I Council/Women Committee.
