SAVE THE DATE for the 2019 Women Economy Summit on April 10, 2019!

The annual Women Economy Summit is the largest gathering of women leaders in the AmCham China community, with a mission to raise awareness of the key role women play in global economic development. The Summit highlights the importance of supporting women leaders and women entrepreneurs by encouraging them to collaborate with leading women's organizations and corporations who are keen to share cutting-edge trends and best practices.

Initiated in 2017 through the joint efforts of the American Chamber of Commerce in China and SCHSAsia, the event is designed to be an energetic and bold experience packed with personal and professional development power for women. Last year, the Women Economy Summit attracted more than 300 professional men and women. The 2018 summit also witnessed the release of the first edition of Women's Leadership in the Workplace White Paper, guiding the community to further develop programs and discussions regarding professional women's positions within organizations. There is an increased call for companies to align strategies, policies and operations with universal principals such as the Sustainable Development Goals, which emphasizes equal pay for equal value. However, globally, the gender gap in the workplace is currently at 23 per cent, which means women earn 77 per cent of what men earn, according to a 2018 report by UN Women.

This year, the Women Economy Summit titled Advancing Women's Prism – Closing the Gap will take place on April 10th, at the Beijing Marriott Hotel Northeast, China.

The Summit will feature a full-day of inspiring keynote speeches, panel discussions, interactive workshops and networking opportunities. It will bring together professional women, corporate leaders, business experts, women entrepreneurs, government officials and academia to support and celebrate women in business around China and globally.

The Summit will also examine international, regional and national 'best practices' towards producing concrete steps companies can take to foster a healthy gender balance, inspire female employees to reach their full potential and unleash the power of the economy.

Attendees will learn:

-Career planning and development

-Ideas to step-up your influence and networks

-Women's health and its cascading impact

A male champion is a male leader who enacts best practices in mentoring while at the same time leveraging an “ally mentality.” In other words, a male champion works to support talented female leaders but also recognizes and combats biases that they might face along the way.

Globally, men still dominate senior and board-level positions. Men can play a crucial role in empowering women within the workplace and changing long entrenched practices that are harmful towards women’s career growth. How can they leverage their position to advance the fight for gender equality?

Panel Discussion – Women’s health and its cascading impact

A focus on women’s health is not at the expense of healthcare for men. It’s about acknowledging that women and men are different. Do companies pay adequate attention to cover women’s health? Is maternity and childcare a part of women’s healthcare benefits? A healthy woman has a cascading impact on creating a healthy family, community and economy as a whole.
