William Zarit

William Zarit is the Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China, and also served as the Vice Chairman in 2016, and Board of Governor in 2015.

The Honorable William Zarit advises major Chinese companies on how to navigate the U.S. investment market, and helps U.S. multinationals working in the Chinese commercial environment. He serves as Senior Counselor at The Cohen Group, a global business advisory firm founded by former U.S. Senator and Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen.

Until May 2014, Mr. Zarit was Minister for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, overseeing the U.S. Department of Commerce’s trade promotion and trade policy activities in its operations in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenyang. He retired with the rank of Career Minister.

Prior to his posting to Beijing, Mr. Zarit was Deputy Assistant Secretary, International Operations, for the U.S. Commercial Service, overseeing Commercial Sections in U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. He previously served as U.S. Commercial Service’s Regional Director for East Asia/Pacific, Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, and Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan.

Before joining the U.S. Commercial Service, Mr. Zarit was Economic and Commercial Program Officer for the New York-based National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. Prior to that, he served as Marketing Manager / China for the California-based telecommunications firm Pacific Telesis International, preceded by his work as Project Manager for the high-tech marketing firm China Business Associates. Both positions were based in Beijing. Mr. Zarit also served as Mandarin Chinese Interpreter for the U.S. State Department Language Services.

He earned an M.B.A. with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. with Honors in Political Science from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Christopher Millward is a China market veteran, who has lived in Beijing since 1994. He is a seasoned consultant and team leader, with experience across IPR, market entry and access, M&A, media and corporate communications, brand strategy, digital and social media, sales and distribution and crisis management.
Christopher has worked with local, regional and national government bodies, academic and research institutes, NGO’s and media outlets throughout the region. He has managed complex assignments involving customer complaints and litigation, IPR disputes, joint venture establishment, environmental protection and labor disputes, with the highest levels of government including the Supreme Court, SAIC, MOST and the NDRC.
In brand positioning and strategy, Christopher has counseled corporations on China market strategies, helping them develop competitive brand advantage. He has advised large FMCG firms such as Procter & Gamble, technology firms like Ericsson and IBM and specialist niche players, including NGO’s and Internet businesses. Christopher’s long tenure “on-the-ground” in China has helped him develop a uniquely accurate and compelling perspective on Chinese customers and stakeholders.
Christopher has worked with numerous multinational companies, including Procter & Gamble, Autodesk, IBM, Honeywell, Bayer AG, Daimler-Chrysler, Turkish Airlines, Eastman Chemicals, Mars/Effem Foods, Lenovo, Bloomberg, United Technologies, Skype, Compaq, Ericsson, Philips, UPS, Mediatek, Edelman, Weber Shandwick, Anheuser-Busch, Mastercard, Audi, NXP, and the Cotton Council.
Christopher holds a BA from Columbia University and has conducted post-graduate research at the University of Hawaii and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He has been recognized by CIPRA for his work in the field of public relations in China. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English and has served as a guest lecturer at Beijing University and Tsinghua University.

Jacob Parker is the vice president of China operations at the US-China Business Council. In this role he manages USCBC’s two offices in Beijing and Shanghai and oversees the development and execution of China-based research, reporting, and programming on trends of importance to US businesses operating in China. He has worked on a variety of international public and private projects throughout his career. Before joining USCBC, Jacob worked as a program manager at Philips Healthcare where he oversaw implementation of ExIm Bank, Nordic Investment Bank, and Ashra Bank international government loan projects for developing medical infrastructure in China. Prior to that, as the director of operations of the USA Pavilion Shanghai Expo 2010, Jacob was responsible for the set-up, maintenance, and general operation of the pavilion, and for sharing American culture and values with the more than 7 million visitors during the six months of operation.
