Mark your calendar on April 14 for a historical cycling tour with AmCham China President, Michael Hart as we explore Tianjin's Old Town and surrounding areas.

Tianjin is renowned for its magnificent architecture dating back to the Ming dynasty of the 13th century. Tianjin is famous for its numerous historical sites as well as the colonial architecture. As we have explored the foreign concessions before, this time we will focus on the Tianjin Old City which has some interesting architecture and stories of its own.

On this cycling tour, we will start from Xibei Jiao, (the northwest corner of Tianjin's old town) before heading up past the old Tianjin West Railway Station and crossing the northern part of the Grand Canal. We will pass by the Tianjin Eye and the renowned Wanghai Lou Catholic Church before heading back to the old city. We will explore some small alleys in the old city home to a concentration of the city's Muslim population with interesting shops and markets before ending at the old Drum Tower where visitors will have the option to buy a ticket if they'd like to enter the tower (ID's required).

Note, although we will NOT go into the former concession areas, we will see several structures built by foreign residents in and around the old Chinese city.

The tour will be led by Michael Hart, President of AmCham China. He previously resided in Tianjin for 15 years and for much of his career focused on commercial real estate and urban development in China.

The Cycling tour will be approximately 2.5 - 3 hours. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Flat-bar Road bikes (for adults) will be provided.

• Note: The flat bar bicycles will be provided. You can also ride your own bike. Children should be over 12 years old and be confident cyclists as we will be on busy roads for part of the route. Each child will need to be accompanied by a parent and supervised during the event.
