Background

As a project leader, a role that often leads without authority, have you ever run into one of these dilemmas?

  • At an important project meeting, the more you want to impress your stakeholders, the more off the meeting goes…
  • Your project requires extra support from top management, yet the key stakeholders are too busy to attend meetings or even to read your emails…

  • During the global pandemic, most of your team communication happens online, but it seems more challenging to express yourself properly and accurately via chatting apps, emails, and virtual meetings…


Course Introduction

Effective Communication in Project Management is a practical training designed to help participants communicate clearly and effectively in project-based situations, especially difficult situations where leading without authority is needed.


This course focuses only on practical techniques which could bring visible improvements during the class. This training includes four (4) project-based effective communication techniques:

  • Project presentation technique
  • Project escalation technique (Group exercises are included)
  • Project feedback technique(Group exercises are included)
  • Online communication technique


All above-mentioned techniques will be practiced though real-case exercises during the training.


Target audience

Project managers, entry-level to mid-level management staff who are frequently involved in projects.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the key elements of project-based communication
  • Master the techniques for effective project-based communication
  • Achieve visible improvement on project-based communication
  • Improve accuracy and efficiency of online communication

Session Outline

  • What is project-based communication

In this section, we will introduce the characteristics of project-based communication and explain why it is different from other types of communication.

  • Project presentation technique

In this section, we will introduce to the participants a catchy presentation technique – VIBE – which is especially useful in project presentation. Group exercises are included.

  • Project escalation technique

External resource and support are crucial in project management. In this section, we will introduce a special project escalation technique – Elevator Escalation – which is especially useful when certain stakeholders are too busy to provide in time support to your project. Group exercises are included.

  • Project feedback technique

In a healthy project environment, every member may need to intensively give and/or receive feedbacks to move the project forward. In this section, we will introduce the ground rules of feedback for givers and receivers and a technique called "Burger's rule" which improves the effectiveness of feedback. Group exercises are included.

  • Online communication technique

In today's environment, online communication has become a part of project management and even daily work. In this section, we will introduce the skills and precautions of online communication through chatting apps, emails and virtual meetings, so as to ensure the accuracy of online communication and improve the efficiency. Group exercises are included.


  • 什么是基于项目的沟通

在这一部分中,我们会介绍基于项目沟通的特点,并解释基于项目的沟通和其他类型的沟通有什么区别。

  • 项目中的演讲技巧

在这一部分中,我们会介绍一个通俗易懂的演讲技巧:VIBE,从声音、信息、肢体语言和情绪这四个方面强调在项目中做公开演讲的注意事项。该部分包括小组练习。

  • 项目中的汇报技巧

在项目管理中,及时获取外部资源和支持是至关重要的。在这一部分中,我们会介绍一个特殊的项目汇报技巧:电梯汇报,这个技巧可以在干系人因为太忙而无法及时提供支持时起到重要作用。该部分包括小组练习。

  • 项目中的反馈技巧

在一个健康的项目环境中,团队成员可能需要经常给出并收到反馈建议,这样才能推动项目进展。在这一部分,我们会介绍对反馈建议的给出者和接收者的基本要求,以及一个可以提高反馈建议有效性的技巧:汉堡原则。该部分包括小组练习。

  • 线上沟通技巧

在如今的大环境下,线上沟通已经成了项目管理甚至日常工作的一部分。在这一部分,我们会介绍通过聊天软件、邮件、视频会议三种线上方式沟通的技巧和注意事项,以保证线上沟通的准确性,从而提升线上沟通效率。该部分包括小组练习。

    ASQ certified Master Black Belt, Founder of Linke Consulting Co., Ltd.

    Graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with Master's in Industrial Engineering, Nadya has been deeply engaged in the field of Operations Excellence. She is proficient in Lean Six Sigma Methodology and experienced in process optimization and operation transformation project management. She is currently the youngest of the 20 ASQ certified Master Black Belts in China and also holds Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification by TÜV.
    Nadya has worked in a multinational group, responsible for promoting Lean Six Sigma in Asia Pacific region. Her main tasks include six sigma organization setup, continuous improvement project delivery, training development and delivery, project coaching, etc. After that, she worked as a management consultant in a world-leading strategic consulting company helping multiple Fortune 500 clients solve problems though projects. Currently, Nadya is the founder and chief trainer of Linke consulting, focusing on providing theoretical training and practical coaching on Operations Excellence for corporate clients and individual students.
    So far, Nadya has delivered 400+ training sessions on Operations Excellence and project management soft skills, trained 4000+ students from over 39 countries, including entry level staff and mid to top management, and coached 500+ continuous improvement projects.
