China's Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) was adopted by the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on August 20, 2021, and is viewed by many as one of the world's strictest data privacy laws. The legislation is set to come into effect on November 1, 2021, which gives companies two months to comprehend its terms and develop their corresponding compliance infrastructure. Following the implementation of the Personal Informational Protection Law, together with the Cybersecurity Law and Data Security Law, China is entering a new era of data-related compliance. This may arouse industry-wide changes in operational norms and product design concepts, particularly for multinationals operating in China.
To help member companies across sectors better understand and prepare for the new regulatory environment around data privacy in China, AmCham China's ICT Forum is pleased to invite you to join us online at 10am-12pm on Tuesday, September 7 (Beijing Time), as esteemed legal experts from the broader AmCham China community explore the contours of the PIPL and examine how it compares with data privacy laws in other major jurisdictions.
Part I: Overview of China's New Personal Information Protection Law
Part II: Analysis by Data Privacy Experts from Around the World (e.g., Europe, U.S., APEC/Singapore, India)
