  • Michael Hart (President at AmCham China)

    Michael Hart

    President at AmCham China

    Michael Hart is President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China based in Beijing. He has over twenty-five years of business experience in Asia, including nineteen years in mainland China.

    As President, Michael oversees all advocacy, programs, partnerships, and insights provided by the Chamber to support the business growth of nearly 900 foreign corporations operating in China, including most of the U.S. Fortune 500. The chamber’s advocacy includes the impressive American Business in China White Paper and Business Climate Survey each published annually as well as numerous interactions with both the US and Chinese governments on behalf of our members.

    Prior to joining AmCham China, Michael spent most of his career in commercial real estate in Taipei, Shanghai and Tianjin including almost 20 years for a NYSE listed property services firm. He started in the research division briefing real estate owners, occupiers and investors on transactions and macro trends, he then opened, built, and led a branch office for the company in one of China’s largest Tier 1.5 cities for over a decade. Following this, Michael opened a private consulting and investment firm that among other projects invested in quick service restaurants.

    In addition to this work, Michael was a long-term AmCham member and served on the Tianjin chapter’s Executive Committee for nearly 15 years including several terms as the local Chairman.

    Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on finance and banking from the University of Missouri-Columbia in the U.S. He is a fluent speaker of mandarin Chinese. Michael was born and raised near Kansas City, Missouri.

    Patrick Beyrer

    Associate at McLarty Associates

    Patrick Beyrer is an Associate at the China Practice of McLarty Associates, a commercial diplomacy and global strategy firm. At McLarty, Patrick assists Fortune 200 companies evaluate geopolitical and trade dynamics within the US-China trade relationship. In addition to his role at McLarty, Patrick is a Non-Resident Research Associate for Public Health at the Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis. Prior to these roles, Patrick analyzed the global and private sector implications of Chinese economic statecraft and foreign policy at several Washington-based consultancies and think tanks.

    Patrick received his Master of Laws in China Studies (Law and Society) from the Yenching Academy of Peking University, where he studied US-China relations, international law, and China’s emerging technology governance model. He also holds BA and MA degrees in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Pennsylvania with Phi Beta Kappa Honors.

    Ms. Li Ye is leading the Merck China Corporate Affairs hub in support to all the three business sectors (healthcare, life science & electronics) of Merck in China since January 2018. The China hub is among the 3 regional corporate affairs hubs (Europe, the United States and China) of Merck KGaA global wide. She is the member of the leadership team of Merck global corporate affairs and sits in the Country Council of Merck in China.

    Ms. Li Ye is a veteran in corporate affairs and government relations for international companies with her 20+ years’ working experience. She joined Merck healthcare in Aug. 2013 responsible for the government relations and market access. Prior to that, she had been taking the management roles on government affairs, market access and strategic development in top international companies including Hoechst, GlaxoSmithKline, Bayer and AstraZeneca, etc. She went to Singapore as the Regional Market Access Lead in Bayer South East Asia in 2008. Later she became Regional Payer Capabilities Director and Global Pricing and Market Access Director for Oncology at AstraZeneca’s Asia Pacific Office until she returned to China.

    Li Ye graduated from University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, then she went to the Great Britain for further study. She obtained a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Westminster, London. She also holds a Diploma of Economic Evaluation and Assessment in Health from the University of York, UK. In 2016, Li Ye completed her Executive MBA study in Peking University National Development School in Beijing. She is now studying for a doctorate on financial management run by the National Development School of Peking University and Fordham University in the United States.

    Anna E is the Director for Public Affairs of Mars China. She plays a key role in Mars’ efforts to build and grow strategic partnerships with key public stakeholders at both central and local levels, conduct policy advocacy in key categories Mars operates in, formulate public policy strategies, and protect and promote Mars’ corporate reputation.

    Anna joined Mars in 2004 as a General Management Trainee. She has worked across different aspects of the business before taking up the Public Affairs role.
