Expatriates have always needed a local specialist to guide them through an unfamiliar tax landscape, but never more so than now.
• IRS Compliance
• Implications of FATCA
• General Pension Planning
• Tax Efficient Solutions

KEY ISSUES FOR US TAXPAYERS:

• Taxed on a worldwide basis

• Unable to invest in open market funds without complications of onerous reporting and high levels of taxation (PFICs rules)

• First round of FATCA filing due on 1st July 2014 under which all participating financial institutions will report data on all US linked accounts worth more than $50,000

• The US will 'look through' typical investment structures and tax the underlying assets as if they are owned directly by the US taxpayer. (i.e. offshore bonds/contractual savings plans)

• For clients who don't report they will get caught - when they come to renew their passport a full audit will be undertaken!

US SOLUTIONS INCLUDE:

• Tax advice in respect of foreign tax credit optimisation, use of deductions, tax-efficient investments and pension planning.
• Preparation of back year returns including reasonable cause statements as well as assessment of the best submission route for non-filers, including "discovered Americans" who have become aware of their filing requirements through the new FATCA legislation
• US Federal and State income tax return preparation, including corporate, partnership, trust and non-US pension reporting.
