Northeast China: Developing an Expat Ecosystem - Intel in Northeast China
AmCham Northeast China Chapter cordially invites you to an exclusive event with Cynthia Pedigo, program manager at Intel. Pedigo will share the Intel story on how an expat ecosystem was built to welcome Intel's large expatriate population in Dalian.
When Intel Corporation scouted Chinese sites for its first Asian fabrication facility, the north-eastern city of Dalian topped the list. But Dalian's advantage also presented a challenge. In China, Dalian is a Tier II city, home to little international commerce and very few expats. Intel needed to shape its new venture – a US $2.5 billion investment – on the talents of people with highly specialized skills sets. However the services to entice and retain those sought-after individuals to a remote area of China were scarce.
In this session, we will hear how Intel built and fostered a transformative living system of institutions and services in education, medicine, family supports and housing. We will see how this ecosystem blended naturally with, and took root in, the surrounding region and how strategic partnerships helped the firm maximize a tight budget and navigate Chinese law and culture.
The event is sponsored by Intel and is free for AmCham China card-holding members.
