Each year until 2030, at least 150 million people will be entering the middle class. This will bring almost 60 percent of the world's population into a middle-income bracket. Over the same period energy demand is projected to increase by 40 percent, and water demand is expected to outstrip supply by 40 percent, according to World Economic Forum.

Providing for the next generation of consumers in a sustainable manner presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Leaders can position themselves to succeed in this changing framework by redefining their strategies. New products, services and value chains - there is a great deal that business could do while promoting sustainable consumption for our daily life.
As the largest emerging market, China faces the great challenges of consumption. AmCham China's Business Sustainability Committee will host Kara Hurst, CEO of The Sustainability Consortium (TSC), Weidong Zhou, managing director of TSC Greater China, and Nanqing Jiang, national officer of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) China office, to discuss sustainable consumption, and the role of business to promote sustainable consumption .
