Arbitration in China: Trends & Challenges for International Commercial Disputes - CLE Credit Available*
With more and more business transactions taking place across borders, the number of China-related and cross-border disputes is also on the rise. To help decipher the issues and the numerous ways to address the problems, AmCham China is pleased to bring distinguished experts to address this growing area of concern.
The speakers will discuss the recent trends in international commercial disputes in China, and particularly in light of recent challenges facing the China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission. The featured speakers are two top IDR specialists and will focus their insights on the issues presented for AmCham China member companies. Key issues to address: What kinds and numbers of international or foreign-related cases are being arbitrated in Mainland China? Can foreign parties receive fair hearings and enforceable awards in China? What are some best practices to ensure that the playing field is level? What is the record of award enforcement in China? What recent legal developments in China have affected arbitration and mediation, including institutional changes at CIETAC? Is mediation of commercial disputes more likely in China in the future?
The two keynote speakers are Yu Jianlong, vice-chairman and secretary general, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), and Mr. Zhang Yuqing, Esq., lawyer, arbitrator and former director general of the Law & Treaty Department of the Ministry of Commerce. This event will be moderated by James Zimmerman, the managing partner of the Beijing office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, and former chairman of AmCham China.
