The Chinese Government has announced ambitious targets for the development of China's unconventional gas reserves and is "encouraging" participation by international oil companies. However, progress in the commercialization of China's unconventional reserves remains slow and it now looks as though government targets established under China's 12th Five-Year Plan will be difficult to meet. Many factors are contributing to the slower than expected pace of development: commercial, policy and technical/geological. Environmental and social considerations have also played their part.
In this event hosted by the AmCham China's Oil, Energy & Power (OEP) Forum, Piers Touzel, Partner with ERM, will take a critical look at the constraints on the industry posed by environmental and social issues. He will share lessons learned to date on how the industry is addressing these constraints in different parts of the country and discuss the implications for the plans to develop unconventional resources in some of China's more environmentally constrained regions.
