AmCham China is pleased to announce the launch of its new Business in Focus event series, featuring expert speakers from the faculties of participating business schools: Beijing International MBA at Peking University (BiMBA), Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, Guanghua School of Business, Richard Ivey School of Business, Simon Graduate School of Business-University of Rochester, Tsinghua University-The University of North Carolina EMBA Program, and the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business.

To compete in today's global economy, an increasing number of firms rely on expatriate managers to manage new opportunities or manage existing operations. However, failure in helping the expatriate managers adapt to culturally novel work contexts will lead to a significant number of managerial failures, significant financial failure as well as personal consequences to organizations and expatriate managers.
In May's Business in Focus Series, AmCham China has invited Gilad Chen from the University of Maryland to give a presentation on expatriate managers' leadership. In this presentation, we will consider various managerial, organizational, and culture-based attributes that enable expatriates to succeed during international assignments. After illustrating the challenges expatriates face via a mini-case, we will discuss lessons learned from the case, as well as from expatriate research evidence.

These important topics will provide an interesting set of discussion points for expats in China, Chinese managers going abroad, and HR managers in companies with global presence.
