AmCham China, Tianjin invites you to join this exclusive company tour in the Tianjin Airport Economic Area (TAEA). The TAEA is a rapidly developing manufacturing hub that has seen an influx of foreign manufacturers and companies in recent years. An extension of the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, this area offers special incentives and advantages to manufacturers.
Our first stop will be Asia Power Systems (APS). APS was established in 2000 at the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone and is a wholly owned Caterpillar enterprise within the Electric Power Division (EPD). As the business has grown and expanded, Caterpillar has increased its investment in APS by constructing a new 28,000 square meter facility in the Tianjin Airport Free Trade Zone. The new facility began operation at the end of 2008. It is an environmentally-friendly facility and has been recognized as a LEED-certified facility by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The second stop will be Sea-Gull Watch, one of the top 500 first class businesses in China and the country's largest watch industry group. Watches range from low-grade (US$120) to luxury grade (US$7000). Founded in 1955, Sea-Gull Watch became publicly listed in 2000, and is ISO 9001.2000 certified. There are over 2000 pieces of advanced machining equipment and testing instruments, 30% of which are from overseas.

The last stop of this tour will be Alcan Cable, a 100 year old global leader in the production of aluminum cable for the utility and building industries, offering a wide range of bare and insulated conductors to both the utility and distribution markets. The Tianjin facility, Alcan Cable's newest, manufactures STABILOY® aluminum alloy building wire for China's commercial building market. A subsidiary of Rio Tinto Alcan, Alcan Cable is in the process of being acquired by General Cable Corporation for US$185 million.
