China’s Nuclear Energy Industry - One Year After Fukushima
AmCham China's Oil, Energy & Power (OEP) Forum hosts this event with Timothy Collier, vice president of Westinghouse Worldwide and managing director of Westinghouse China. Collier will discuss developments in the nuclear industry globally and in China following the devastating Japanese earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
It has been one year since the disastrous nuclear accident at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Experts now view Fukushima as the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl in 1986. In the aftermath, the Chinese government promptly reaffirmed its position that it will continue its nuclear energy policy. Yet China also became the only nation among all major nuclear energy states that suspended its new nuclear plant project approvals. What has happened to the industry since then? Where is it headed?
Collier will discuss the following topics:
- The need for nuclear power; - Lessons learned from Fukushima; - The Chinese government's position; - The current status of the nuclear power industry worldwide.
