Global climate change, industrialization, and a rapidly increasing world population are contributing to an increased frequency of disasters, both natural and man-made. China represents one of the most disaster prone regions in the world. Ensuring safe manufacturing practices, enhancing emergency response capabilities and disseminating emergency awareness information to the general public have therefore become absolutely critical.
The China Emergency Relief Training Center (CERT) has been established with the primary aim of providing emergency response training with the latest international standards of disaster relief, as well as an international academic exchange platform for relevant organizations, institutions, and experts from all over the world. As the Chinese Medical Doctor Association's exclusive Disaster Medicine Training Provider, CERT has trained almost 10,000 students since April 2010 in various disaster medicine and emergency response training courses.

Christopher Seymour has a background in biochemistry, Education and Chinese, and has spent almost seven years in China. He is a qualified American Heart Association - Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor, as well as a Chinese Medical Doctor Association-qualified Disaster Medicine and Rescue Training Instructor. He is currently the training Program Coordinator at CERT.
