AmCham China's Healthcare Cooperation Program hosts this panel of healthcare experts that will discuss critical health issues facing women around the world today. The panel will discuss how women can assess their own health, detect disease early, and employ some of the best prevention techniques known to the medical community. The panel will also discuss stress as a risk factor for these diseases and its impact on health.
The major chronic illnesses facing women today are heart disease, cancer and stroke. Globally, 8.6 million women die from heart disease each year, accounting for one-third of all deaths in women. And while heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death for women in China, 90% of Chinese women unaware of this danger. Cancer, another major killer, is also worrying with breast cancer the most common cancer in women worldwide. While the incidence of breast cancer in China remains relatively low compared to the West, it is growing quickly and has surpassed lung cancer as the most prevalent cancer among women in China. Despite these frightening statistics, early detection and prevention can significantly reduce the number of deaths caused by these illnesses.
