Automotive Joint-Ventures in China: Lessons Learned from Success
AmCham China hosts this discussion with Michael Dunne, author of "American Wheels, Chinese Roads". Dunne will offer his viewpoint on automotive joint-ventures (JV) in China, which will pave the way to a better understanding of doing business in the Middle Kingdom, beyond the automotive industry.
A clear example of a successful JV is General Motors' partnership with SAIC. Whereas countless other JVs are full of doubts and misgivings, the SAIC-GM partnership makes trust a cornerstone. Together since the first Buick rolled off the line in December 1998, SAIC and GM have earned billions in profits, put millions of Buicks and Chevys on Chinese roads and employed hundreds of thousands of Chinese workers.
Dunne will take a look at successful cases like SAIC-GM to ascertain what this means for other American companies operating in China and if JVs like these offer hints to the overall direction of US-China relations in the future.
