AmCham China hosts this first event of the China and the Environment Series, examining China's efforts to develop a "green economy".
China's green vision, endorsed at the highest levels of government, is to: • achieve high income status (i.e., double its income by 2020, and double it again by 2030); • go from being the most polluted country in the world to one of the greenest; • play a leading role in innovating and scaling up environmental policies and technologies (and do well commercially in the process); and • see its carbon emissions peak... All in twenty years.
Carter Brandon, working with the Development Research Center of the State Council and with the Ministry of Finance, will look at the magnitude of China's sustainability needs in both economic and physical terms, and explore the economic policies required to address them.
