This discussion will focus on the privacy issues surrounding the globalization of information and what that means for China.
China is part of the global information economy. Information from China is shared or displayed in Europe, the Americas and other parts of Asia. Information from those regions is used and processed in China. The globalization of data has shifted policymakers, regulators and companies from a legal model for data protection based primarily on legal compliance to one based on organizational responsibility and answerability. The new term is accountability. The Centre for Information Policy Leadership has played a key role in that shift. The Centre's President, Martin Abrams will discuss that transition, how it is impacting the next generation of privacy laws, and what that means for China.
