Global China: the first in an occasional series of presentations focusing on China's expanding global role

Within the last ten years China-Latin America trade and investment relations have expanded dramatically. Brazil's relationship with China is just one example: Within the last two years China has become Brazil's top trading partner and source of foreign investment. However, the rapid development of economic relations between China and Latin America has created as many challenges as opportunities. Latin America is grappling with concerns about its dependence on commodity exports, a rise in the value of its currency relative to the renminbi and concerns about how to gain better access to the Chinese market for the region's manufactured goods and services. This talk will provide an overall assessment of these issues and a roadmap for thinking about China-Latin America ties going forward.

The Carnegie–Tsinghua Center for Global Policy is a joint US–China research center based at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The Center was established in April 2010 through a cooperative agreement between the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Tsinghua University School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
