Nicholas Burns
Ambassador at U.S. EmbassyNicholas Burns is Ambassador of the United States of America to the People’s Republic of China(PRC). Nominated by President Biden, he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in December 2021.
As Ambassador, he will lead a team of experienced, dedicated, and diverse public servants from forty-seven U.S. government agencies and sub-agencies at the U.S. Mission in China, including at the Embassy in Beijing and at the American Consulates in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Shenyang. He will oversee the Mission’s interaction with the PRC on the full range of political, security, economic, commercial, consular, and many other issues that shape this critical relationship.
Ambassador Burns is on a public service leave from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government where he was Goodman Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations until 2021 and founded the school’s Future of Diplomacy Project.
He has had a long career in American diplomacy serving six Presidents and nine Secretaries of State. Most recently, he was a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Board of Secretary of State John Kerry (2014-2017).
While serving at the Department of State as a career Foreign Service Officer, he was Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (2005-2008) where he led numerous negotiations, including on the U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Deal, a long-term military assistance agreement with Israel, and on Iran’s nuclear program.
As Ambassador to NATO (2001-2005), he led U.S. efforts in Brussels on 9/11 when the Alliance invoked Article 5 of the NATO Treaty for the first time in its history. He managed the combined State-Defense Department U.S. Mission when NATO accepted seven new members in Eastern Europe and embarked on missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was Ambassador to Greece (1997-2001) and prior to that, served as State Department Spokesperson (1995-1997).
He worked on the National Security Council at the White House (1990-1995) where he was Special Assistant to President Clinton and Senior Director for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Affairs and Director for Soviet Affairs for President George H.W. Bush during the collapse of the USSR.
Ambassador Burns began his Foreign Service career in the Middle East. He worked at the American Consulate General in Jerusalem (1985-1987) where he coordinated U.S. economic assistance to Palestinians on the West Bank, at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt (1983-85) and, as an intern, at the U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania (1980).
He first visited China in 1988 accompanying Secretary of State George Shultz and then President George H.W. Bush in 1989. He subsequently made visits to China with Secretaries Warren Christopher and Madeleine Albright as Spokesperson, including during the handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the PRC in 1997.
As Under Secretary of State, he worked with the PRC government on a diverse range of issues, including Afghanistan, North Korea, United Nations sanctions against Iran and U.S. policy in the Indo-Pacific. As a private citizen, he also created and managed an Aspen Strategy Group policy dialogue with the PRC government’s Central Party School.
Burns co-authored in 2020 with Ambassadors Marc Grossman and Marcie Ries a major study on the future of American diplomacy. They called for fundamental reforms to strengthen the Foreign and Civil Service and to renew our country’s commitment to diplomacy.
Jennifer Chan
Director and Associate General Counsel, Asia Pacific Head of Legal, Greater China at MetaJennifer Chan is a seasoned corporate lawyer with over two decades of experience in a wide range of industries from natural resources to now technology. A company director and associate general counsel in Meta’s Asia Pacific legal group, Jennifer established the content practice for the Asia Pacific Region and is also the first head of legal for the Greater China region, focusing on online safety and integrity related regulatory issues. Jennifer also sits on Meta’s Greater China leadership team.
Prior to joining Meta, Jennifer worked for Chevron and Halliburton in various leadership roles. A native of Singapore, Jennifer speaks Mandarin and English and has working knowledge of Cantonese.
Dingding Chen
Professor at Jinan UniversityChen Dingdinng is Professor of International Relations, Associate Dean of Institute for 21st Century Silk Road Studies at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China, and Non-Resident Fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) Berlin, Germany; and SAIS at Johns Hopkins Univeristy. He was the Vice-President of International Studies Association (Asia Pacific region 2014-2018). He is also the Founding Director of Intellisia Institute, a newly established independent think tank focusing on international affairs in China. His research interests include Chinese foreign policy, Asian security, Chinese politics, and human rights. His articles have appeared in International Studies Quarterly, International Security, Journal of Contemporary China, Chinese Journal of International Politics, and The Washington Quarterly. He is the co-editor of a book on international engagement with human rights in China. Before teaching at university of Macau between 2009 and 2016, he was a visiting instructor in the government department at Dartmouth College and was also a China and the World Program Fellow at Harvard University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international economics from the Renmin University of China and a master’s degree and PhD in political science from the University of Chicago.

Qiang Lv
Divisional Vice President at Abbott LaboratoriesMr. Qiang Lv is Divisional Vice President of Global Government Affairs at Abbott Laboratories. He is based in Beijing and leads the North Asia Regional Government Affairs team, reports directly to the headquarter. Qiang joined Abbott in 2014 as Vice President of Abbott China, responsible for corporate government affairs and supports the rapid development of Abbott's nutrition, medical devices, diagnostics and established pharmaceuticals in China.
Prior to join Abbott, Qiang was the Corporate Affairs Director of Mars Wrigley. He served several senior positions for corporate affairs and market development in Siemens and Sandoz, the generic division of Novartis before he joins Mars Wrigley.
Qiang was born in Beijing. He was professionally trained in the area of stomatology and medical engineering and received bachelor’s degree from the Fourth Military Medical University of China. He holds EMBA of INSEAD and Tsinghua University.
Paul Triolo
is Senior Vice President for China and Technology Policy Lead at Albright Stonebridge GroupPaul Triolo is Senior Vice President for China and Technology Policy Lead at ASG. He advises clients in technology, financial services, and other sectors as they navigate complex political and regulatory matters in China and around the world.
A recognized expert in global technology policy, Mr. Triolo was most recently founder, Practice Head, and Managing Director of the Geo-Technology practice at Eurasia Group. Previously, Mr. Triolo spent more than 25 years in senior positions in the U.S. government, analyzing China's rise as a technology power and advising senior policymakers on a broad set of technology-related issues. At the beginning of his career, he worked as an engineer for a semiconductor testing firm in Silicon Valley.
Mr. Triolo is frequently quoted on technology policy issues in media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, the South China Morning Post, and others. He speaks regularly at conferences and has authored many journal articles and book chapters on global technology policy and China-related issues. He also serves as a Senior Advisor at the Paulson Institute.
He received an M.A. in International Relations from the Catholic University and a B.A. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University.
He is based in Washington, D.C.
Christine Yuan

Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Christine worked with leading US law firms and multinational companies, including Baker & McKenzie LLP, Covington & Burling LLP, Volvo and Corning. She has extensive experiences in various corporate functions with key focus on government affairs, legal affairs, public policy advocacy, market access, media relations and corporate social responsibility.
Christine received her master degree from Peking University School of Economics and her bachelor of law degree from National Huaqiao University Law School.
Jim Zhang

And before joining Honeywell he worked multiple MNCs including Motorola (used to be the largest mobile phone company) and Meggitt PLC (a global leader of avionics and specialized sensing technology.) Jim has extensive experience and knowledge in Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing, and he is Certified Lean Expert .

Bing Zhou is the Vice President of Dell’s Greater China Government Affairs team. Prior to Dell, he held senior government affairs positions at GE, Novartis and PayPal. He also served as the Deputy Directory of the Bo’ao Forum for Asia and is an expert on Asian Economic Integration.
