China is now the world's second largest economy, the second largest exporter, and a manufacturing machine that has lifted 500 million from poverty. Then why have Chinese leaders described their economic system as "unstable, unbalanced, uncoordinated, and unsustainable"? In this presentation based on his new book – "No Ancient Wisdom, No Followers: The Challenges of Chinese Authoritarian Capitalism" - author James McGregor will discuss extensive new research that details how China's unique system of authoritarian capitalism must be radically overhauled for the country to continue its march toward widespread prosperity.
James McGregor, a senior counselor for APCO Worldwide, was AmCham China chairman in 1996 and a member of the Board of Governors for many years. He currently chairs AmCham China's US Government Relations Committee.
