Land issues represent one of the greatest challenges to sustainable economic growth and social stability in China, and ongoing land policy reforms are crucial for China's future success. In this AmCham China event, Gao Yu, China country director of the Seattle-based non-profit development organization Landesa (formerly known as the Rural Development Institute), will discuss Landsea's latest study on land rights.

Gao Yu will present the study, which was produced collaboratively with Renmin University and Michigan State University. This independent study is the latest part of a series of six large-scale sample surveys covering more than 1,700 villages in 17 provinces across China. The 2011 results highlight issues concerning land documentation, seizures, investment and transactions.
Since 1967, Landesa has championed the power of land rights and currently works in more than 40 developing countries. Since 1987, Landesa has acted as an advisor and partner to key Chinese government agencies and local organizations to strengthen farmers' land rights, improve farmers' compensation and to increase understanding of tenure agreements.
