    Steve Winkates

    Director of Program Management, East Asia, United States Trade and Development Agency

    Steve Winkates is the Director of Program Management for the East Asia Region at USTDA, based in Beijing, China. He is responsible for managing USTDA’s activities in China and Mongolia, directing business development efforts, coordinating with relevant stakeholders in both the region and the United States, and marketing USTDA services to potential partners in both countries.

    Prior to this position, Mr. Winkates worked in Beijing for a consulting firm which specialized in developing transportation infrastructure projects. He also previously served as a Country Manager at USTDA, covering China and Southeast Asia during his tenure, and as a Policy Analyst at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

    Mr. Winkates holds a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts from Rhodes College.

    William Zarit

    Vice Chairman, AmCham China

    William Zarit, based in Beijing, helps Chinese companies navigate the U.S. investment market, and provides U.S. companies advice on working in the Chinese commercial environment.

    Until recently William was Minister for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, overseeing the U.S. Department of Commerce’s trade promotion and trade policy activities in its operations in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenyang. William is one of only two serving Foreign Commercial Service officers worldwide to have attained the rank of Career Minister, which earned him the lifetime “Honorable” honorific.

    Prior to his posting to Beijing, William was Deputy Assistant Secretary, International Operations, for the U.S. Commercial Service, overseeing Commercial Sections in U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. The U.S. Commercial Service is the federal government’s front line trade agency, promoting both U.S. exports and foreign investment into the U.S., and protecting U.S. commercial interests overseas. Prior to that he served as the U.S. Commercial Service’s Regional Director for East Asia/Pacific.

Attending an Event
Events have limited seating, so to ensure your attendance we encourage advance online registration and payment for ALL events. We cannot guarantee entry to anyone not registered in advance.
Most of our events are in English and off the record, but please check the webpage for each event to avoid disappointment.

Advance Tickets and Discounts
Members can receive a discount by purchasing an advance ticket at least 24 hours before the day of the event. You must pay online at the time of registering for the event to be eligible for a discount.
Discounts will not be available to members at the door.

Receipts (fapiao)
You can receive your fapiao when you arrive for an event provided that you buy an advance ticket and pay online at least 1 working day before the event and you provide the correct information for your fapiao at that time. You can leave details of the type of fapiao you need on the registration and payment page.
 
Event attendees can request a fapiao at the door or up to two months after the event. Requests made after that time will not be accommodated. Please contact the AmCham China staff member responsible for organizing your event.
 
Cancellation Policy
If you cannot attend an event for which you have registered, please cancel your registration no later than one business day prior to the event. If you fail to notify AmCham China of your cancellation in a timely fashion, you will forfeit the fee you have already paid.

To cancel you can: 1) cancel directly online through the Eventbank platform on which you registered or 2) contact the AmCham China staff member responsible for organizing your event.
