    Alan Beebe

    President, AmCham China

    Alan Beebe was appointed President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China in March 2016.

    He has more than twenty years of industry and management consulting experience in Asia, including the past fourteen years in mainland China. Prior to joining AmCham China in Beijing, Alan held various senior executive positions with EY, IBM, and management consulting firms AT Kearney and PRTM. He also led a Beijing based start-up for five years, the China Greentech Initiative, which merged in 2014 with the Paulson Institute, founded by Hank Paulson. Alan has advised a wide range of corporations and global investors on investing and operating in China, including global private equity firms, U.S. high technology companies and major Chinese enterprises such as China Telecom and China Mobile.

    He holds a Master’s degree from Yale University in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the U.S. He is a Board of Advisor of the Yale Club of Beijing and in that capacity promotes academic and cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China.

    He is a fluent speaker of mandarin Chinese, and reads and writes Chinese.
    Alan was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He is married with two children.

    Managing Partner at Sheppard Mullin, and Chairman of AmCham China

    James Zimmerman is the managing partner for the Beijing office of the international law firm of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, and is the author of several publications concerning trade and China related issues, including the well-recognized China Law Deskbook, a publication of the American Bar Association (now in its 4th edition).

    Mr. Zimmerman is recognized as one of Asia’s leading business lawyers in the AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers Survey and is listed as a Leading Individual in the category of Corporate/M&A for foreign law firms in China of the AsiaPacific Legal 500: The Guide to Asia's Commercial Law Firms.

    Mr. Zimmerman serves on a number of non-profit boards focused on child health and education issues in China and is active as a fundraiser for charitable organizations. He has lived and worked in Beijing since 1998. Zimmerman previously served as the chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce China in 2007 and 2008 and as a vice chairman in 2005 and 2006, and also has served on various AmCham committees for over 15 years.

    Managing Partner for Asia of the Mintz Group and Vice-Chair of AmCham China's Board of Governors

    Randal Phillips is the Managing Partner for Asia of the Mintz Group, and correspondingly manages the Mintz Group’s activities across Asia.

    Randy spent 28 years with the Central Intelligence Agency's National Clandestine Service, most recently serving as the Chief CIA representative in China. He has an extensive background in foreign field operations, policy and program management, and leadership development. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Bahasa Indonesian.

    Randy has lived and traveled extensively throughout China and elsewhere in Asia for the U.S. Government. Additionally, he has managed worldwide and regional programs from Washington. Randy has extensive relationships with officials and business leaders throughout the continent.

    Randy has deep expertise on issues relative to Asia, with particular emphasis on China. This includes an intimate knowledge of the full range of political, economic, trade, investment and security issues involving China, from a bilateral as well as a multilateral perspective. Randy has extensive experience unraveling a variety of complex matters involving finance, trade and fraud.

    Randy has a B.A. in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs from Miami University, and a Masters of International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

  • Bill Zarit (Vice-Chair of AmCham China's Board of Governors)

    Bill Zarit

    Vice-Chair of AmCham China's Board of Governors

    William Zarit, based in Beijing, helps Chinese companies invest in the U.S., and advises U.S. companies on working in the Chinese commercial environment.

    Until mid-2014 William was Minister for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, overseeing the U.S. Department of Commerce’s trade promotion and trade policy activities in its operations in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenyang. William is one of only two serving Foreign Commercial Service officers worldwide to have attained the rank of Career Minister, which earned him the lifetime “Honorable” honorific.

    Before that posting to Beijing William was Deputy Assistant Secretary, International Operations, for the U.S. Commercial Service, overseeing Commercial Sections in U.S. Embassies and Consulates worldwide. Prior to that he served as the U.S. Commercial Service’s Regional Director for East Asia/Pacific. He also served as Deputy Senior Commercial Officer in Taipei and Beijing, and Senior Commercial Officer in Kuala Lumpur.
