Since late January, foreign companies in China have been navigating the multi-varied impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak. Now a pandemic, the global business community can draw on the real experiences of China-based executives who have had to quickly adjust to manage issues like supply chain and operational disruptions, employee safety, and corporate citizenship.


In light of this major global challenge, AmCham China is proudly hosting a webinar together with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to assist US-based companies as they consider how to mitigate the coming impacts of the novel coronavirus on their business and operations.


The webinar is set to be held on Friday, March 27, from 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM Beijing Time and will consist of three parts:

  • Best practices shared by AmCham China member company executives from different sectors
  • Panel discussion and audience Q&A moderated by AmCham China President

    Roberta Lipson

    CEO, United Family Healthcare

    Roberta Lipson is CEO and founder of United Family Healthcare (UFH). She has over 40 years of experience as a pioneer in the healthcare industry in China. She originally co-founded United Family Healthcare’s predecessor company Chindex in 1981, expanding the business from China’s top medical equipment distribution company into China’s first and largest foreign-invested healthcare system. After almost two decades, UFH has established itself with hospitals and clinics in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao, and Hangzhou as the provider of choice for those seeking premium, personalized healthcare. United Family Healthcare was rated in 2016 as “The Most Trusted Healthcare Brand of China” by the Chinese Business Journal.

    Ms. Lipson is an active leader in the business community in Beijing, having served as a director of the U.S. China Business Council, as well as 4 successive terms on the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham), and as Co-Chair of the AmCham Healthcare Forum. She also chairs the Board of the United Foundation for China’s Health (UFCH), and is a co- founder of Beijing’s Jewish Community - Kehillat Beijing. Because of her outstanding contribution in China, Roberta Lipson received “The Great Wall Friendship Reward” in 2009, the highest honor that Beijing government gives to foreign experts in Beijing. In 2014 Roberta was honored by AmCham as the inaugural recipient of the China Pioneer Award. She was named as a “Top 10 Business Leader of China” by Sina.com in 2015, and earlier she led the company to win the U.S. State Department ACE Award for Corporate Excellence. With 40 years living and working in Beijing, in 2017 Ms. Lipson received Foreign Permanent Resident Card. Ms. Lipson holds a BA from Brandeis University and an MBA from Columbia University.

  • Jerry Liu (President, Cargill China)

    Jerry Liu

    President, Cargill China

    Jerry Liu is the President of Cargill China since June 2018 and Managing Director of Cargill Starches, Sweeteners and Texturizer (CSST) since 2016.

    Jerry joined Cargill in 2000 as an analyst in Strategy and Business Development (SBD) based in Minneapolis. In addition to various SBD projects, he also played an instrumental role in strengthening ties between Cargill leadership and China stakeholders.

    In January 2005, Jerry returned to China and moved to Songyuan in Northeast China to assume the position of General Manager of Cargill Biochem Co.Ltd, the largest asset of Starches and Sweeteners China. In February 2011, Jerry Liu was promoted to BU Leader of Cargill Starches & Sweeteners China.

    Since 2016, Jerry has served as the Managing Director for Cargill Starch Sweetener & Texturizing Solutions China. In June 2018, Jerry became the country representative for China and add the title of president of Cargill China to his responsibilities.

    Jerry received his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2000, and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the Nankai University in Tianjin, China in 1991.

    Jerry lives in Shanghai with his wife and son. He enjoys hiking, skiing and plays soccer every week.

    President, China Center; Vice President, Greater China, US Chamber of Commerce

    Jeremie O. Waterman is president of the China Center and vice president for Greater China at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Waterman is responsible for developing and executing Chamber policy initiatives in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Mongolia as well as steering the Chamber’s policy work in the Asia-Pacific region.

    In carrying out the Chamber’s Greater China agenda, Waterman directs its trade and investment policy advocacy and initiatives in the areas of investment, innovation, intellectual property rights, financial services, agriculture, health care, energy and environment, and corporate governance and social responsibility.

    Waterman has pioneered a number of Chamber business initiatives focused on China, such as the U.S.-China CEO Dialogue and the newly created China Center. He is frequently quoted in the media on a broad range of China issues relating to international business and trade policy and is a periodic guest on news programs.

    Before joining the Chamber, Waterman worked for five years at the US-China Business Council as director for government affairs. He also served at the Office of the United States Trade Representative in the offices of Congressional Affairs and Africa.

    Waterman received a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Boston and is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles. He and his wife have two children.

    中国美国商会主席

    Greg Gilligan joined the PGA TOUR in late 2013 as Vice President and is the lead executive in China serving as PGA TOUR China Managing Director. Currently Chairman Emeritus, Mr. Gilligan served in an elected capacity as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, as an officer for four consecutive terms from 2011 – 2014.

    Prior to the PGA TOUR Mr. Gilligan was the Managing Director of APCO Worldwide’s Beijing office. He joined APCO after serving as General Manager of Corporate Affairs for McDonald’s (China) Co., Ltd., where he developed and executed strategies to enhance McDonald's brand and corporate image among China’s regulatory bodies, consumers and other key stakeholders. Prior to that role he served as McDonald’s China’s General Manager for Southeast China.

    Vice President, Intel Corporation Director, China Corporate Strategy Office, Intel China

    Brent A. Young is vice president of Intel Corporation and managing director of the China Corporate Strategy Office at Intel China. He is responsible for defining and driving Intel’s China strategies including partnerships, business growth, and reputational strategies in China.

    Previously, Young was managing director of China Tech Ecosystem (CTE) Sales and China Product Marketing Group. He led Intel’s overall product marketing in China as well as sales, customer, and go-to-market strategies in the CTE. During his tenure as managing director, the CTE sales team received the company’s highest honor, the Intel Achievement Award, for quickly ramping the ecosystem and shaping the nature of the tablet market toward Intel.

    Young joined Intel in 2006 as an open source software strategist before holding a number of management positions leading effective product marketing and sales strategies. He also served as technical assistant and chief of staff to Tom Kilroy, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Sales and Marketing Group. Prior to joining Intel, he spent 5 years developing core product features and strategic marketing plans in various software engineering positions at Curl Corporation and ShoppingList.com.

    He is a member of Montage Technology Group Limited’s board of directors, an executive-in-residence at Tsinghua University’s X-labs incubator, and an active startup private investor.

    Young earned both bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Computer Science from Cornell University and received an MBA specializing in strategy, marketing, and finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

    毕艾伦先生拥有二十年的管理咨询经验,他通过商业、运营和信息技术战略的发展和实施方式曾在美国、中国和其他亚洲国家帮助客户提高业绩。他为许多在清洁技术、能源、高科技及其它行业的中国和国际公司提供过咨询服务。

    在加入安永之前,毕艾伦先生先后在中国绿色科技、IBM和管理咨询公司AT Kearney 和PRTM担任过管理职位。中国绿色科技,作为一个基于中国的服务于领先的国际能源和环境公司的商业合作平台,毕艾伦先生在其任职期间带领的咨询服务和战略研究覆盖了所有能源和清洁技术的主要领域包括可持续城镇化,能源价值链,可持续工业,绿色建筑和清洁运输。

    毕艾伦先生拥有耶鲁大学国际关系学院硕士学位和美国内布拉斯加大学林肯分校商业管理和计算机科学学士学位。他还是北京耶鲁俱乐部的董事会成员,从事促进中美两国在学术和文化方面的交流的工作。
