Yifei leads Control Risks' operations in North China and advises international and domestic companies in China on risk management solutions. He helps companies to better understand what specific risks their businesses face and assists them to design mitigation solutions so they can seize opportunities for growth.
Yifei has extensive experience providing multinational companies in China with solutions in business intelligence, reputational due diligence, and compliance-related reviews. He routinely helps clients to evaluate risks in their investment decisions, responding to and collecting information on fraud, and providing context on Chinese regulatory issues.
Yifei also regularly supports Chinese companies in going-abroad projects, and helps them to understand and prepare for dealing with complex security matters, conducting threat assessments, providing context on local political and social relationships that may affect the sustainability of their operations, and evaluating foreign business partners.
He has been recently involved in the following cases:
- Conducted reviews into compliance breaches, including whistle-blower management, for multinational companies in the healthcare sector.
- Conducted commercial due diligence, competitor and distribution chain analysis for a US manufacturer set to expand into new locations in China.
- Helped Chinese companies evaluating investment decisions in high-risk areas overseas to assess their crisis management structures, training programmes, and market entry approaches.
- Carried out in-depth background checks into Middle Eastern and African entities as potential partners, to assess integrity, sustainability, and availability of capital, for Chinese companies and funds focused on Belt and Road initiatives.
Prior to joining Control Risks, Yifei worked extensively on rare earth and mining analysis for a US-based think tank which focuses on political risk and strategic industries. He has also designed and advised on simulations and war games for various institutions in the US. Yifei graduated from Georgetown University with a master’s degree in security studies and from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is a native speaker of Mandarin and English.
