Eric Schmidt

Eric once traced Marco Polo's route from Beijing, China to Venice, Italy by bicycle – he was appreciatively sponsored by Nike and Phillips.

Tong Chen

Tong started her journey in IBM 18 years ago as a technical profession. She took various leadership roles in business development, organization transformation, service/consulting management and recent 5 years in human resources area. Tong is leading the total compensation and benefits in IBM Great China Group, she and her team provide strategic C&B solutions for priority business needs. Before that she was the talent leader and the leading HR Partner for IBM GCG global business services.

Tong has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and master degree in business administration. She speaks Mandarin, English and Japanese.

Christy Murray

Ms. Christy Murray is the Executive Director of the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School Career Development Office (CDO). She leads a team of career coaches and employment relations managers to expand and strengthen the Carey Business School’s global employer network. At Carey, she and her team have organized large career fairs, employer industry days, speaker series, on-campus interviews, coffee chats, networking nights, and career treks. In January 2017, Christy established and led the first, annual, international career trek to Beijing and Shanghai, China. Key employer partners of Carey both domestically and internationally include Accenture, AstraZeneca, CITIC Securities, GE, Huawei, Johnson & Johnson, KPMG, MGM International, Morgan Stanley, and RedStone. The Career Development Office at Carey works with 800 full time students each year, to prepare them to be more competitive both in the U.S. and abroad. Last year CDO held 250 events with over 3,800 student attendees.
Ms. Murray has 20 years of corporate and higher education experience, including asset and property management roles at KeyCorp, Trammell Crow, and CubeSmart (formerly U-Store-It), and the last 10 years managing career development initiatives at Johns Hopkins University. She holds a Master of Science degree in Organizational Counseling from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Miami University (Ohio). She is a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) certified practitioner and an active member of the MBA Career Services and Employer Alliance (MBA CSEA) organization.

Travis Tanner

Travis Tanner is the President of the US-China Strong Foundation. Based in Beijing, Mr. Tanner works to advance the Foundation’s mission by providing executive leadership and leading its China operations. He has more than 15 years of experience working on US-China relations.
Mr. Tanner previously served as Senior Project Director at The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) and Director of NBR’s Kenneth B. and Anne H.H. Pyle Center for Northeast Asian Studies. Previously, he was Deputy Director and Assistant Director of the Chinese Studies Program at the Center for the National Interest (formerly the Nixon Center) in Washington, DC. He also worked as a Research Assistant at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
Mr. Tanner is the author, contributing author, or co-editor of numerous publications on the strategic, economic and political dimensions of the US-China relationship, including five volumes of the Strategic Asia series. Mr. Tanner has also been featured in major media outlets in the US and China.
Mr. Tanner received his Master’s degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center and his Bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and literature from the University of Utah. Mr. Tanner is a member of the National Committee on US-China Relations and serves as a Senior Advisor to NBR. He currently lives in Beijing with his wife and four children.
