Influencing through Storytelling


When presenting to global colleagues, are you effective enough?


You've realized that facts and data are not enough to attract their attention, or to clarify your ideas, or to persuade. You need an advanced communication tool, Storytelling, to influence your managers, clients, and other stakeholders, because a good story makes your presentation meaningful, memorable, and even favorable.


This half-day training provides the essential tools of storytelling to help you present and influence global colleagues. At the end of the training, you will have a ready-to-use process to tell effective stories that proves your ideas, offer win-win solutions, establish your personal credibility.


Target Audience


Employees and managers who often need to influence global team member or outside stakeholders.


Course Objectives

  1. The course aims to develop the following competency of the participants:
  2. Able to use story-structure to clarify ideas in everyday communication
  3. Able to use stories to influence different stakeholders under different situations for different purposes, such as proposing ideas, asking for resources, or drive decision-making.
  4. Able to use stories to build rapport and trust.

  4. We use role-play and simulations with all participants taking all roles during the course, including observation and feedback.


Course Content


This course is a half day training and includes the following modules:

  1. Common challenges when influencing up & across
  2. Nature of stories: why it builds trust and how is it the best PULL strategy to influence


(2) Story Fundamentals

  1. Three key criteria of a good story that move people into taking action
  2. The story structure that hooks the audience


(3) Typical Business Stories you can tell

  1. Storyline and Example-stories, to build clarity
  2. "Help me help you" Story, to influence
  3. Credibility Story to build trust

    Hubert is the Message Coach to help you discover, craft, and deliver the message that is meaningful and matters to your business audience. He believes that for executives to succeed in a presentation and speech, they must begin with a sound communication strategy. So, he brings valuable business insights into your message. This is necessary to analyze the best approach to influence your audience, whether they are management, customers, or investors.

    After attaining his MBA at the University of Illinois of Urbana Champaign, Hubert started management consulting experience with Accenture. In this role, he had wide exposure to different industries, functions, and global teams. In the next 12 years, he took on roles in consulting and senior management positions in managing teams and projects in the US, UK, Singapore, and China.

    Hubert is in the business of developing people as a trainer, and coach in the area of communication. As a corporate trainer, his past clients include VW, Microsoft, Roche, Shell, Gilead, Novo Nordisk, Swire Societe General, Loreal, Hulu, Intel, TE connectivity, Cargill, Wacker Chemical, Schneider Electronics, Baxter, and etc.

    Hubert is a US citizen and has been working in China since 2004.
