Please join us to walk through the French & British Concession in Tianjin with AmCham China President, Michael Hart, on September 27 (Saturday).
There is no better way to discover the history of Tianjin's former foreign concessions than by walking the very ground where it happened. Our tours are designed to help you explore a city filled with hidden architectural gems and little-known historical facts. As we explore more about the former foreign concessions that were located in Tianjin in the early 1900s. In this walk, we will focus on the heart of the former French and British concessions.
We will begin our tour at the Jiefang Bridge and proceed along Jiefang Road, which was once one of old Tianjin's main centers of commerce and activity. Along the way, we will pass by historic banks, trading houses, government buildings, clubs, and religious structures. The tour includes a stop at the Anglican Church, where you can step inside to learn about its history and enjoy a complimentary drink. We then proceed to the Wudadao (Five Boulevards) Area, a former residential district, before concluding with lunch (Optional). Along the way, discover why Tianjin attracted such a unique mix of people and how its foreign concessions left a distinctive architectural and cultural legacy.
The tour will be led by Michael Hart, President of AmCham China. He has resided in Tianjin for over a decade, and most of his career has focused on commercial real estate in China.
The walking tour will be approximately 3.5 hours. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. The tour will end around the Min Yuan Square, where we will have lunch at Smoki & Co., and you will be able to order food individually.
