Event Details

Applying for colleges is a huge, future-determining endeavor, even more so when applying abroad – many parents and students are reaching a point of exhaustion dealing with the complicated US college admissions process.

In recent years, there has been an appreciable increase in the number of Chinese students studying in the US. As the recent Sino-U.S. enomomic and treade tensions, Chinese students and parents are very upset about obtaining U.S. visas. The officers of the U.S. Embassy will give an updates on the current U.S. government attitude and policy for Chinese Student.

When applying for US universities, they usually apply to several universities to maximize their number of acceptances and increase their opportunities. This, however, is a flawed technique.

Determining the right US universities to apply to, determining the best fit, is equally important as the decision to go abroad itself. Choosing to study abroad is a significant life decision and there are many factors which need to be considered when deciding which schools to apply to.

Important Factors Include:

  • Academic competitiveness
  • Academic preferences
  • Support networks and safety
  • Cultural sensitivity of the region

To address these factors and concerns of parents and students alike, Patrick Stenger of ISB will comprehensively explain how to identify the best-fit universities as a student going abroad; what to research, what to consider; how to establish your match schools.

As well, Stenger will discuss what recruiters look for and what stands out in an application, as well as what university characteristics will result in a better 4-year education.

To address the often intensive interview process, Gloria Crawford, Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of InitialView, will explain the best practices for dazzling admissions interviewers and ensuring the best chances of acceptance, based on years of industry-related and interview-oriented experience.

AmCham China is honored to invite students and parents alike for this information-driven event to learn how to choose suitable universities and tackle the interview process.

At This Event You Will Learn:

  • How to effectively determine your match schools, reach schools, and safety schools
  • What admissions boards/directors look for in international student applications
  • How to match your academic and future-career goals with the right schools
  • How to handle pre-admission third party interviews and school on-site interviews

This event will be conducted in English.
