As the world has become more urban-centric, the importance of nature and the environment became increasingly overlooked. However, with the rise of consciousness about climate change, communities, governments, and businesses are stepping up to rewrite this narrative. Over the past 30 years, "sustainable development" has risen to become a globally recognized priority.
Artists, in particular, have a rich history of advocacy and expression. Their work often references topics like environmental protection, social development, and economic equilibrium. For decades, artists have not only conveyed their appreciation for the concept of "sustainable development" through their works but also put those principles into practice, from utilizing recycled or sustainable materials for the creation and construction of their work, to participating in rural planning and more.
The US-China Art Dialogue will focus on the role of the arts - including best practices, opportunities, and challenges - in achieving sustainable development goals. Furthermore, the program will also facilitate discussions around: artists' understanding of the principal of sustainable development; how art can contribute to global sustainable development; how various industries can draw inspiration from the art world; explore how the perspectives and wisdom of sustainable development are featured in traditional cultures; and the fusion of art and technology.
The gallery is open to the public, hence no registration is needed for viewing. However, to attend the dialogue, you must register due to limited capacity.
The American Chamber of Commerce in China and the United States Embassy in China are in partnership to continue focusing on art and sustainability. This event is funded as part of a gift from the United States Government.
