With the mounting tension between the U.S. and China, many incidents have been associated with the trade dispute regardless of their relevance, leading to the increasing concerns in both business and academia for the future of technology exchange and collaboration between the two countries. Comparing to the trade frictions, the impact of "tech decoupling" could be more profound and intimidating. Is the current international situation leading to a "tech decoupling" between China and the U.S.? In retrospect, what benefits and challenges have technology exchanges brought to the two countries? Where is the development path of transnational technological innovation?
AmCham China Technology and Innovation Initiative invites Professor Jielin Dong, Research Fellow at China Institute for Science and Technology Policy at Tsinghua University, and Lance Noble, senior analyst in Gavekal Dragonomics, to discuss the following topics with members to explore the prospect of U.S.-China technology exchange. Joanna Mao, Deputy Director of USITO will moderate the event.
Topics for Discussion:
- Sino-U.S. tech diplomacy retrospect: American academia's goodwill towards China
- Significance of tech exchange to both the U.S. and China in the past 40 years
- How to promote tech collaboration in the context of trade frictions?
- Will the tech exchanges between China and the outside world dry up?
- How can corporates cope with "tech decoupling"?
- With the potential "tech decoupling", how can American and Chinese companies continue driving innovation in China?
*The language of the event will be both Chinese and English.
*This is a member-only, off-the-record event for AmCham China and USITO members, and approval is required for registration.
