Event background
In the process of establishing a global sustainable food system, countries are gradually paying more attention to the regulation and approval paths of new technologies. On November 16, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration first issued a "no question" letter for cultivated meat from poultry/seafood products, confirming that the cultivated chicken from Upside Foods in the United States is safe and edible. This is the first cultivated meat product approved by the FDA, which is of far-reaching significance to the governments and industries concerned about future food and protein innovation in the United States, China and the world. Before the completion of this process, most of the cultivated meat products were still in the conceptual or laboratory stage. Due to the lack of necessary regulations and approval paths, the large-scale production has been challenging. The FDA's green light is undoubtedly a positive signal for protein innovation, which will pave the way for more innovation and products to enter the market, and has strategic significance for investors, established industry players, and start-ups alike.
