On Wednesday April 7th, AustCham China will host an International Women's Day Luncheon, This event will celebrate the social, political and economic achievements of women with the aim of energizing the conversation around actions necessary towards gender equality in a post COVID-19 world.


This event will be supported by the Australian Embassy, AmCham China and CCG (the Center for China and Globalisation).

    Global Chief Executive at King & Wood Mallesons

    Sue took on this role in 2017 after leading the firm in Australia for four years as Chief Executive Partner, Australia. Sue works closely with the Global Chairman and the firm’s International Management Committee to lead the firm’s international growth strategy. Sue is based in Hong Kong and spends significant time in China and Australia.

    She became a Partner of legacy firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques in 1996 and has held a number of board, management and leadership positions in the firm over the past two decades.

    Amongst her many professional achievements, Sue has received a number of accolades and acknowledgements for her impact and influence on the legal profession in the Asia Pacific. These include:

    - The Lawyers Weekly Lawyer of the 21st Century award recognising her significant professional achievements between 2000 and 2020 (2020);

    - Doctor of Letters honoris causa from Macquarie University in recognition of her extraordinary contribution to the law (2019);
    The esteemed ‘Legal leader’ award, at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Awards, in recognition of her significant role in driving King & Wood Mallesons growth and success across APAC (2018);

    - The Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Women of Influence (2018);

    - The Lawyers Weekly Executive of the Year award Australia (2017)

    Sue is a member of Chief Executive Women.

    Sue was the first woman in Australia to lead a top tier law firm in that role and is the first Australian female to lead a global law firm.

    Roberta Lipson is CEO and founder of United Family Healthcare (UFH) and the CEO of New Frontier Health (NYSE:NFH). She has over 40 years of experience as a pioneer in the healthcare industry in China. She originally co-founded United Family Healthcare’s predecessor company Chindex in 1981, expanding the business from China’s top medical equipment distribution company into China’s first and largest foreign-invested healthcare system. After almost two decades, UFH has established itself with hospitals and clinics in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao, and Hangzhou as the provider of choice for those seeking premium, personalized healthcare. United Family Healthcare was rated in 2016 as “The Most Trusted Healthcare Brand of China” by the Chinese Business Journal.



    Ms. Lipson is an active leader in the business community in Beijing, currently serving for the seventh year as a director of the U.S. China Business Council, as well as 4 successive terms previously on the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham), and as Co-Chair of the AmCham Healthcare Forum and founding Chair of the Healthcare China Program (HCP) . She also chairs the Board of the United Foundation for China’s Health (UFCH), and is a co- founder of Beijing’s Jewish Community – Kehillat Beijing. Because of her outstanding contribution in China, Roberta Lipson received “The Great Wall Friendship Reward” in 2009, the highest honor that Beijing government gives to foreign experts in Beijing. In 2014 Roberta was honored by AmCham as the inaugural recipient of the China Pioneer Award. She was named as a “Top 10 Business Leader of China” by Sina.com in 2015, and earlier she led the company to win the U.S. State Department ACE Award for Corporate Excellence. With 40 years living and working in Beijing, in 2017 Ms. Lipson received Foreign Permanent Resident Card. Ms. Lipson holds a BA from Brandeis University and an MBA from Columbia University.

    Managing Director of Yale Center Beijing

    Carol Li Rafferty is the Managing Director of Yale Center Beijing, Yale University’s convening and intellectual hub in China, and a Co-Founder of Lean In China, an organization that has grown into a network of over 100,000 women across the country. In 2016, the World Economic Forum (WEF) selected Carol as a Young Global Leader (YGL), and she currently serves as a member of the YGL Advisory Group, the YGL’s global advisory board. She is also a recipient of Caixin Media’s Outstanding Women Award.

    She previously worked for the China Investment Corporation (CIC), the country’s sovereign wealth fund, as Senior Vice President, responsible for strategic and private equity investments. Carol graduated cum laude from Yale University, with dual B.A. degrees in Economics and International Studies. She received her J.D. degree from Stanford Law School.

    She is a China Fellow of the Aspen Institute, and a member of the Board of Trustee at Keystone Academy, a non-profit K-12 school in Beijing, China. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Carol is a member of the founding family of the Bank of East Asia (HKEx: 23). She is currently a member of the Hong Kong government’s Financial Services Development Council’s (FSDC) Working Group on the Asia Institute of Finance, and a member of the Hong Kong X-Tech Startup Platform Advisory Committee.
