AmCham China has been conducting the China Business Climate Survey (BCS) for more than two decades, offering valuable insights into the business performance and future expectations of its members in China. This year's report is based on feedback from a diverse range of companies across various industries, covering key topics such as financial performance, market outlook, Investment priorities, regulatory challenges and perspectives on US-China relations, and more.


AmCham China Southwest Chapter invites all members and the wider business community to the launch of the BCS 2026 on January 20 at Grand Hyatt Chengdu. This exclusive executive luncheon will feature opening remarks by James Zimmerman, Chairman of AmCham China, and a presentation by AmCham China's Senior Director, Mark Dreyer, who will highlight the key findings and insights from this year's report. After the presentation, attendees can participate in a Q&A session to explore the findings further, followed by networking opportunities for executives and business leaders to connect and share insights over lunch.

    Chairman at AmCham China

    James Zimmerman is the Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China).

    Based in Beijing, James is a author and lawyer who has lived and worked in China for three decades. He is a partner with the law firm of Loeb & Loeb LLP and advises foreign companies on corporate, transactional, regulatory, litigation and white-collar criminal defense matters. James previously served as Chairman of AmCham China for four prior terms in 2007-08 and 2015-16. He is the author of the acclaimed non-fiction book, The Peking Express: The Bandits Who Stole a Train, Stunned the West, and Broke the Republic of China.

    Mark Dreyer is the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China). Before joining AmCham China in July 2018, he was the Senior Communications Manager at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business.

    Prior to switching to his current focus on corporate and strategic communications, Mark had various roles in the media. Formerly a football reporter with Sky Sports in the UK, he has also been a reporter and producer for both Fox Sports and AP Sports in the US, before moving to China ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He has since covered seven Olympic and Paralympic Games as an accredited journalist and has reported on sports events in five different continents, and has interviewed stars including Pele and David Beckham.

    He has worked with a number of media outlets in China and is regularly asked to comment on the Chinese sports industry for BBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, Financial Times and many others. His book, “Sporting Superpower: An Insider’s View on China’s Quest to Be the Best”, which attempts to unravel the parallel threads of politics, economics and sports in China, was published in 2022.
