Markel Hübinette currently serves as the Vice President of ConocoPhillips and the President of ConocoPhillips China.
With over 20 years of extensive experience in the energy sector, he has served in key technical, managerial, and leadership roles through global assignments spanning South America, the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
Joining ConocoPhillips 18 years ago, Mr. Hübinette has held multiple positions in Norway, United Kingdom, Australia, China, and Houston headquarter. In 2008, he joined ConocoPhillips in Norway as a Well Integrity Engineer for offshore operations. In 2014, he moved to the UK to become the J-Area Development Manager, and later became Asset Manager for the Greater Britannia Area. In 2017, he transferred to Australia and led the Darwin LNG Life Extension and Bayu Undan decommission project teams. In 2019, Hübinette relocated to China as the VP of Capital Projects & Asset Management, and then moved to Houston in 2022 to serve as Capital Project Manager for the Gulf Coast Rockies region. In 2023, Hübinette returned to China to assume his current position as President of ConocoPhillips China. His outstanding contribution during his tenure earned him the Tianjin Haihe River Friendship Award in 2023 and subsequently the prestigious China Government Friendship Award in 2025 – recognitions that underscored his exceptional role in advancing Sino-foreign cooperation in China’s oil and gas sector.
Mr. Hübinette began his career in the energy industry in 2003 as a Field service Engineer for Baker Hughes in Argentina.
Mr. Hübinette is from Sweden. He holds bachelor’s degrees in engineering, finance, and international business.
