Joanna Mao joined the United States Information Technology Office (USITO) in September 2015 serving as its Deputy Managing Director. Prior to that, Joanna was employed with Lenovo, Intel, A.P. Muller. Maersk, Microsoft and Ogilvy & Mather. She has 17 years of marketing, communication and partner management experience in the information technology sector, and while serving as spokeswoman, oversaw government affairs in North Asia. Joanna was once in investment banking, providing counseling for Chinese companies seeking overseas listings while serving for ING Baring.

Sherry‘s practice focuses on data privacy and cyber security, government regulatory, commercial contracts, foreign direct investment, and employment. She has advised many multinational companies in cross-border transactions and matters, especially in the telecommunications, media, technology (TMT), finance, life sciences, and education industries.
She has extensive experience with in-depth knowledge of the TMT industry in China. She is familiar with the legal needs of our information and technology clients, having advised extensively on a wide-range of matters in this sector including complicated market entry and regulatory issues, and industry-specific licenses. She is also an expert in data privacy and cybersecurity, third party payment license, and ecommerce. She helps clients implement data privacy and cybersecurity compliance programs under CSL, DSL and PIPL.
