Join us next Friday in the AmCham Media & Entertainment Forum Kick-Off Meeting! We encourage both new and experienced members who want to learn more about Media & Entertainment Forum to attend.


This Kick-off meeting will not only cover 2022 Media & Entertainment Forum goals and plans but also help us understand AmCham China 2022 Plans. AmCham President Michael Hart and M&E Co-Chairs Charles Shi and Li Li are leading this event. We invite Gregory Harris from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, to give remarks on US Commercial Service Developments in China. Travis Tanner, Senior Vice President of GreenPoint Group, will be giving us a briefing on "Two Sessions", together with China Business Environment.


This meeting will be held on March 18th from 16:00 to 18:00 PM in the Washington room at AmCham office, which is located in Sanlitun, Chaoyang District. All Member Companies including upstream and downstream industries in Media and Entertainment are welcome!

He is also the General Manager of Universal ( Beijing) Consulting Company Limited. Charles leads the Media and Entertainment Forum at AmCham China as a Co-Chair.

    LI’s journey started in L’Oréal where she worked in Paris, Hong Kong and eventually settling in Shanghai. During this time, she developed broad experience supporting functions from brand marketing to being the General Manager for the APAC Travel Retail division. While in China, her leadership as GM for Audemars Piguet drove significant brand growth.

    Li was then responsible for building the online retail experience at VIPLUX, VIP.com and developed leading edge Omni-channel strategies for high-end brand partners where she increased both merchandise value and consumer loyalty.

    At a time when the industry is facing pressure to move quickly and profitably to take advantage of digital opportunities, Condé Nast will be well supported by Li’s track record in leading the VIPLUX business.

    With a background in Architecture from studying at Tsinghua University and a Master’s degree in Fashion and Luxury Management at the Institut Français de la Mode, France Li understands the core art behind the Condé Nast brands.

    Likewise her entrepreneurial approach, strong business acumen, strong communications skills (fluent in Mandarin, English and French) and her inclusive leadership style commend her to leverage the collective wisdom of MNC teams to make a significant difference in the Chinese market.

    Now Li supports the Media and Entertainment Forum at AmCham China as a Co-Chair.

    Michael Hart

    President at AmCham China

    Michael Hart is President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China based in Beijing. He has over twenty-five years of business experience in Asia, including nineteen years in mainland China.

    As President, Michael oversees all advocacy, programs, partnerships, and insights provided by the Chamber to support the business growth of nearly 900 foreign corporations operating in China, including most of the U.S. Fortune 500. The chamber’s advocacy includes the impressive American Business in China White Paper and Business Climate Survey each published annually as well as numerous interactions with both the US and Chinese governments on behalf of our members.

    Prior to joining AmCham China, Michael spent most of his career in commercial real estate in Taipei, Shanghai and Tianjin including almost 20 years for a NYSE listed property services firm. He started in the research division briefing real estate owners, occupiers and investors on transactions and macro trends, he then opened, built, and led a branch office for the company in one of China’s largest Tier 1.5 cities for over a decade. Following this, Michael opened a private consulting and investment firm that among other projects invested in quick service restaurants.

    In addition to this work, Michael was a long-term AmCham member and served on the Tianjin chapter’s Executive Committee for nearly 15 years including several terms as the local Chairman.

    Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on finance and banking from the University of Missouri-Columbia in the U.S. He is a fluent speaker of mandarin Chinese. Michael was born and raised near Kansas City, Missouri.

    Gregory Harris

    Principal Commercial Officer (PCO) at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing

    Gregory Harris is the Principal Commercial Officer (PCO) at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China. He leads a team covering north and southwest China, a nearly $6 trillion dollar economy, that supports U.S. exporters in the market.

    Previously, Greg had regional responsibilities as the Senior Commercial Officer (SCO) and Director of the U.S. Commercial Service Liaison Office to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) based in Manila.

    Prior to assuming his duties as SCO, he was Principal Commercial Officer in Kaohsiung where he managed an office serving U.S. businesses in the southern Taiwan market.

    His previous assignments with the Commercial Service include serving as team leader at two of the busiest posts in the Service, Shanghai and Taipei. He also served many years at the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

    He received a MA degree from the Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle and a BA from the University of New Mexico.

    Senior Vice President at GreenPoint Group

    Prior to joining Universal Charles used to work with multinational companies including British Petroleum, Peabody Energy and Arrow Energy and he took senor executive positions over the past 20 years.

    Travis N. Tanner is the Beijing-based Senior Vice President of GreenPoint Group. Mr. Tanner assists clients based on two decades of experience conducting research and analysis, briefing policymakers, directing programs, and building bridges between Chinese and U.S. government, corporate, academic, and non-profit communities.

    Previously Mr. Tanner served as President of the U.S.-China Strong Foundation, an offshoot of the Obama administration’s “100,000 Strong Initiative,” a public-private partnership designed to equip the future generation of leaders with the knowledge and skills to engage productively with China. Mr. Tanner established and directed the Foundation’s operations in China and drove engagement with key stakeholders and partners including Chinese and U.S. government officials, business leaders, academic institutions, media outlets, philanthropists, and students.

    Mr. Tanner worked for over a dozen years in the think tank industry conducting research projects examining a wide range of policy issues facing the U.S.-China relationship, including China’s intellectual property, technology standards and innovation policy, China’s military development, and U.S.-China people-to-people exchange. He previously served as Senior Project Director at The National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) and Director of NBR’s Kenneth B. and Anne H.H. Pyle Center for Northeast Asian Studies. He was Deputy Director and Assistant Director of the Chinese Studies Program at the Center for the National Interest (formerly the Nixon Center) in Washington, D.C. He also worked as a Research Assistant at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

    Mr. Tanner is the author, contributing author, or co-editor of numerous publications on the strategic, economic and political dimensions of the U.S.-China relationship, including co-editor of five volumes of NBR’s Strategic Asia series and U.S.-China Relations in Strategic Domains (Routledge, 2020). Mr. Tanner has also been featured in major media outlets in the U.S. and China.

    Mr. Tanner is the recipient of the Doak A. Barnett and Hassenfeld Fellowships and received his M.A. in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University – SAIS and the Hopkins-Nanjing Center and his B.A. in Chinese language and literature from the University of Utah. Mr. Tanner is Senior Advisor to NBR, a Tsinghua University Schwarzman College Industry Mentor, and member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. He has also served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America for over 20 years.
