Each month, AmCham China invites Senior Executives from our Member Companies to join an exclusive, private lunch at AmCham China's Beijing office for an in-depth discussion with visiting industry leaders to address current trends and the most pressing topics in various industries.

This June, AmCham China President, Alan Beebe will host Scott C. Beardsley, Dean at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. Dean Beardsley is a global strategy and regulation expert, who has served leading clients in the telecom, technology, public, nonprofit and professional services arenas in places such as China, Latin America, the Middle East, Silicon Valley, Europe, India and Africa. He has led major research efforts on topics such as technology trends, the knowledge economy, regulation, IT productivity, performance transformation and broadband. Through his research on business in society, he helped to incubate the McKinsey Climate Change Special Initiative, dealing with issues such as carbon abatement and sustainability. His current research interests focus on higher education leadership and leadership development architectures.

This is an invite-only, free-of-charge event with 10 seats available, and the registration requires approval from AmCham China. Please register online in advance. No walk-in’s will be allowed to enter.

    Scott C. Beardsley is the ninth dean of the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. He joined the Darden School as dean and Charles C. Abbott Professor of Business Administration on 1 August, 2015 after 26 years at McKinsey & Company, during which he held numerous senior roles, most recently as senior partner and, from 2011 to 2014, as an elected member of McKinsey's global board of directors. A frequent author, speaker and media commentator, he has presented at venues such as the World Economic Forum at Davos. A passionate faculty member, he has previously lectured in the MBA program of the Belgian business school Institut d'Administration et de Gestion. He has also served on a number of boards, including eight years as chair of the board of directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium.

    Alan Beebe was appointed President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China on Mar. 14, 2016.

    Alan was an Executive Director based in Beijing, leading EY China’s Cleantech and Supply Chain and Operations (SC&O) practices. His clients include major global corporations, primarily diversified industrials and high-technology companies operating in China.

    Prior to joining EY, Alan held Executive positions with the China Greentech Initiative (CGTI), IBM, and management consulting firms AT Kearney and PRTM. He has twenty years of management consulting experience in the US, China and other Asian countries helping clients develop and implement sound business, operations and technology strategies. At EY China, he helps global clients transform their business models to drive new revenue opportunities and preserve profitability in China’s changing economic climate.

    From 2010 to 2013, Alan was a Managing Director with CGTI, a collaboration platform serving over 50 international energy and environmental companies. At CGTI, he led advisory services and strategic research across all major areas of energy and cleantech. In 2014, CGTI merged with the Paulson Institute, founded by Hank Paulson.

    Alan holds a Master’s degree from Yale University in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the United States. He is a Board of Advisor of the Yale Club of Beijing and in that capacity promotes academic and cultural exchanges between the United States and China. Alan has lived in China since 2002 and speaks Chinese fluently.
