Event Details

China hosted the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in Beijing on May 14-15, attracting 29 leaders of different countries to attend. A joint communique was issued after the summit. The list of BRF deliverables includes 76 items comprising more than 270 concrete results in five key areas, namely policy, infrastructure, trade, financial, and people-to-people connectivity. It demonstrated China's commitment for opening up, prompting free and inclusive trade worldwide, and sharing the benefits with other countries. The Belt & Road initiative is also expected to open up more opportunities for foreign companies searching for business growth outside their home markets.

AmCham China, partnering with the EU Chamber, cordially invites you to attend an exclusive dialogue with Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang (张晓强), Executive Vice Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), on May 24th. CCIEE hosted one of the thematic session of BRF, which focused on think tank exchanges, on May 14th. On behalf of CCIEE, Zhang will share his insights with members from both chambers, on the BRF achievements, the future plan of the Belt & Road initiative, as well as opportunities for foreign companies in China.

    Xiaoqiang Zhang

    Executive Vice President at China Center for International Economic Exchanges

    Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Executive Office and legal representative of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), in charge of the overall work of the Executive Office and the coordination of important researches at CCIEE. He graduated from the Department of Economics of Peking University in 1982. In the following years, he served as Deputy Office Chief and Office Chief of the Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment of State Development Planning Commission (SDPC), Deputy Director of Guangzhou Municipal Development Planning Commission, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment of SDPC, Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment and Deputy Secretary-General of SDPC, and a Member of the Leading Party Group, Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

    When he served as the Vice Chairman of NDRC, his portfolio successively included the General Office, Department of Basic Industries, Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment, Department of High-Tech Industry, Department of Trade and Department of International Cooperation. He was also in charge of the construction of the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, the coordination of large-scale infrastructure projects in China’s mainland and HKSAR and liaison with organizations directly affiliated to NDRC, such as CCIEE and International Cooperation Center (ICC).

    He is concurrently a Member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (Economic Sector) and an Independent Director of China Investment Corporation (CIC) and Deputy Director of Academic Committee of the National Development and Reform Commission.
