Citing Thomas Jefferson, one of the Founding Fathers of the American democracy, "men have differed in opinion, and been divided into parties by these opinions, from the first origin of societies, and in all governments where they have been permitted freely to think and to speak."

After the election result is called and putting the differed opinions aside, how can we come back together to reflect on the opinions thought and spoken during this election season, and then create new opportunities from yet another perhaps defining moment in modern political history that affects not only "We the people of the United States" but also those whose economic prosperity and development ours co-depend with.

The leaders of AmCham China, led by AmCham China's Board of Governors, would like to invite our members and the public to join a lunch event right after the general election to share their views on:
  • Lessons learned from this past election;
  • How America has changed as reflected by the result;
  • How the outcome and issues coming out of this election may affect the new presidency, the new Congress, people and the role of business in influencing the most important decision that may set the direction of the country and the relations with its international peers over the next decade;
  • What might this mean for the U.S.-China bilateral relations, and how might the Chinese leadership prepare for and manage this?
  • What can this mean for the American business community in China working with the new president for support of our advocacy, public-private partnerships, export of technology, goods and services, and other market access efforts?
  • How should the China-based operations work with the U.S. corporate headquarters to manage the lame duck period and set up for the transition into the new administration?

The program is open to all members of AmCham China and non-member public at member rate in the spirit of public service and civic engagement. A light lunch will be provided.
The program is also open to friends of the local and foreign press, who are interested in learning and reporting AmCham China's position on the election outcome and the aftermath. Members of the press who are interested in joining and reporting the program and the positions of AmCham China should also register for the media admission and contact AmCham China's PR Manager Lin Lin at llin@amchamchina.org prior to the day of the program.
