The Latest on US Tax Compliance and Estate Planning
Estate planning impacts the manner in which assets are managed, preserved and transferred. Proper planning ensures smooth transitions and can significantly reduce US tax liabilities. Furthermore, the civil and criminal penalties for non-compliance with the complex and often confusing US tax laws are too high to be ignored.
The AmCham Tax Forum is hosting an informational event presented by Rebecca Wang, Director of Global Employer Services at Deloitte, and Fabiola M. Suwanto, Partner at Perkins Coie. The two speakers will lead a discussion on current issues concerning US tax filing and reporting compliance as well as estate planning. These issues are important to US citizens and those with US connections. The discussion will touch on the following:
- Discuss the US income, gift and estate tax issues facing US persons (US citizens, US green card holders and US residents) and non-US persons owning assets in the US; - Discuss the importance of estate planning in light of families becoming more international; - Provide information regarding Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Prenuptial Agreements and other documents that are part of an estate plan; and - Address US tax reporting obligations and share information about the tax amnesty programs available currently.
