What does the Tianjin Shipping Index mean to MNCs in China

Mark your calendar for AmCham China, Tianjin Monthly Executive Breakfast Briefing on August 18th.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, global shipping prices fluctuated so sharply that many trade enterprises that relied on sea transport suffered a shortage of shipping containers. Continued growth in shipping prices also brought a serious economic burden to manufacturing companies.

The good news is that Tianjin Shipping Index (TSI) has been on a downward trend since this year due to the International Container Freight rate dropping back. As the situation of epidemic prevention and control is generally stable, more efficient shipping supply chain operation, lower the prices of main routes, and a steadier sipping index encouraged export companies to resume their work and production. It shows that the contradictions between supply and demand are easing, and transportation costs and efficiency are returning to normalization.

At the August 18th breakfast briefing, we invite Ms. Liu Ying from Tianjin International Trade & Shipping Service Center to deliver a presentation about the research background of Tianjin Shipping Index and help you understand its characteristics and ways of application. Analyzing the recent index trend can help companies make reasonable expectations for their future shipping costs.

About Tianjin Shipping Index

Shipping index is a relative number that reflects the impact of comprehensive changes in shipping market capacity, volume and other factors on freight rates in different periods. Tianjin Shipping Index (TSI) provides a market reference which could reflect the freight volatility in Tianjin and Northern China. TSI is the comprehensive calculation result of Tianjin Container Freight Index (TCI), Tianjin Bulk Freight Index (TBI) and Tianjin Domestic Container Freight Index (TDI).
