From Cultural Shock to Academic Excellence - How Chinese Students Adapt to US Culture
"Culture is central to the experience of living overseas". Adapting to the US study culture can be challenging to Chinese students. They can experience feelings ranging from excitement and interest to depression, frustration and irritation or even aggression. The stress is caused by culture shock. As parents and students, it is wise to be well informed about American campus culture before starting school in the US.
What is US class culture and academic ethics? How should you interact with US professors and classmates? How can you cultivate an original, independent point of view which is a skill highly valued in the US academic system?
AmCham China invites you to pick up "survival" kits for your children to help them overcome culture shock. Two education specialists from EducationUSA China of the US Embassy in Beijing will open the event with a very informative presentation on cultural differences on US campuses, followed by an in-depth panel discussion joined by Karen Ma, a Chinese-American educator, journalist, and author, whose own children experienced the culture shock.
