AmCham China invites you to attend an informative lunch briefing with the former US Ambassador to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), David Carden.
Ambassador Carden's presentation – "Into the East: Exploring the US Pivot to Asia" – will cover two main topics:
• Building US relations in the region: Elevating the importance of sustainability, climate, trade, etc; engagement with Asia-Pacific's multilateral institutions; and support for a rules-based system. As the US-China bilateral discussions at the S&ED approaches, Ambassador Carden will give a regional perspective on US relations in the Asia-Pacific.
• Manufacturing beyond China: China used to be the obvious choice for offshore manufacturing and production. However, businesses looking for low-cost export platforms in Asia are increasingly considering countries across SE Asia such as Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand. This economic reality has impacts on the US engagement with the Asia-Pacific, and its interactions with ASEAN countries as well as China.
