Since President Xi Jinping pledged carbon neutrality to the United Nations General Assembly in 2020, China has embarked on a journey of decarbonization through implementing effective policy, enhancing technology development, and adjusting industrial structure. However, China still faces pressing challenges in its progress toward carbon neutrality, particularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increasingly complex geopolitical environment. How to ensure the pledge can be successfully translated into actions?
Professor Yao TANG, from Guanghua School of Management at Peking University, will use the "Action Plan for Carbon Dioxide Peaking Before 2030," released by the State Council in 2021, as an entry point to discuss the progress and challenges of China's journey to meet the carbon targets. Relevant factors to be discussed include energy safety, impact on the economy, the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, financial investment in renewable energy, and more.
