AmCham China is pleased to announce the launch of its new Business in Focus event series, featuring expert speakers from the faculties of participating business schools: Beijing International MBA at Peking University (BiMBA), Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, Guanghua School of Business, Tsinghua University-The University of North Carolina EMBA Program, and the University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Business groups constitute an important part of the Chinese economy. Practically all exchange-listed firms in China are a part of a business group. Business groups span both the state and private sectors of the Chinese economy, even though many business groups are controlled by state-owned enterprises, about half are now controlled by private companies. With the significance of business groups comes the prevalence of related party transactions (关联方交易).
In August's Business in Focus Series, AmCham China has invited Professor Joanna Wu from The Simon Graduate School of Business - University of Rochester to give a presentation on related party transactions. In this presentation, Professor Wu will draw from cutting edge research in the fields of accounting, finance and management to explore the complex relations between Chinese listed firms and their controlling entities and study how different forms of related party transactions impact the listed firms' accounting and stock market performance.

This presentation will provide an interesting set of discussion points for managers who want to understand the implications of related party transactions for their own firms as well as their competitors. The presentation will also be of interest to security analysts who must understand the interactions within business groups to make better forecasts for individual firms.
